We’re as good as friends as we were before, but I’ve felt differently since our first kiss in his car.

I don’t think he wants to jump into a relationship since this whole thing started to avoid the dates his mom kept sending him out on. Kyle doesn’t seem to want marriage and kids as much as his family wants it for him. I don’t even think I’m ready for that. I want to further my career if possible and settle into something.

Good sex isn’t something I’d turn away and if we have that, I can just enjoy it. We’re friends, so I don’t feel as awkward as I could and when he left, things were fine. I just need to start my day and focus on work.

I jump in the shower a bit earlier than usual, seeing the marks from his teeth on my pale skin as I rinse Kyle from my body. I wasn’t sure what I thought he’d be like in bed, but last night was incredible and I won’t ever forget it, if that part is over.

I make coffee and know I’ll need a lot more after last night as I try to make myself look more awake than I feel. Adrenaline is rushing through me, and I feel hyper, but I know I’ll hit a low at some point. I’ll just need caffeine to get through it.

I slip into a pair of black slacks and a blue blouse before leaving the house, grabbing what’s left of my coffee. The sun is bright today and I know enough about this place to appreciate it when it’s out. Fall is coming and there will probably be more rain with that, so I need to cherish the bright sky.

I talk to Mom but mention nothing about the night before. She doesn’t even know about the arrangement that I have with Kyle since she’s not into gossip too much. I don’t know if she’d even see the pictures of us.

I think she’d like me and Kyle together. Mom always liked him and saw how I reacted when he moved, even though we were just friends.

I end the call when I park the car and walk into the building with everyone else. Tuesday morning and my week has already changed drastically.

“Good morning,” I greet everyone as I walk into the office after avoiding the stares in the lobby.

“Hi. How are you?” Marcie asks as she secures her hair into a high ponytail.

“I’m good. Ready to work!” I tell her as she smiles knowingly at me.

Does it show that much? I force that thought from my head and smile as the others come in.

We all take turns making coffee and return to the campaign, adding to the idea together.

Today, I want to see Kyle walk by. I’m still tingling from everything last night and seeing him would make me smile, though I guess I’m already doing that from the look on Marcie’s face.

We work hard through lunch, and I head out with Eli to grab lunch for everyone so we can keep at it. He seems to be fine with everything and we’re getting along well. The moment I step out of the elevator is when I see Kyle walking into the building.

Our eyes lock and he smiles faintly before glancing at Eli beside me. “Hello, you two. Having a good day?” Kyle asks us as we pass, and I nod.

“Working hard on the energy drink,” I reply as Kyle stares at me for a moment, bringing back memories of last night as heat washes over my skin.

“I look forward to seeing your progress,” Kyle replies as he glances at his watch. “Be safe out there.”

There’s no kiss on the cheek today, but it doesn’t feel appropriate here.

“He seems like a good guy,” Eli says as we walk to the Thai place to grab the order.

“Kyle? Yeah, he is.” I agree, not wanting to say too much.

“Do you get along with his family?”

“They’re nice. I haven’t seen too much of them working and all.” That’s a good vague answer, since I don’t even want to get into those dynamics.

We get the food and we’re back to work before he says anything else, making me wonder how he’s really feeling about me and Kyle. I dig into my noodles and add ideas as they come to me, seeing something solid happening for this campaign.

Since there’s a rush on this one, we decide to work a few late nights to get things done. I don’t see Kyle on those nights since we both need to sleep. He tells me to keep Friday free after work so we can go out to dinner and I agree, knowing it’s a publicity stunt when he mentions the place.

That gives me some space to think this over. I can see that we’re continuing with the act and he’s not breathing down my neck to spend the night with me. Kyle may have gotten his fill and be done with that part. I’ll have to live with that if it’s the case.

On Friday, I wear a loose long skirt in bright colors with a neutral black t-shirt and do my makeup a little darker than usual. I need to look date ready.

I feel the day drag with the excitement of seeing Kyle again after a long week without him. Luckily, we’re close to being finished with the campaign and will turn in the finished project next week.

When the day ends, we all high-five each other at the fact that we got so much accomplished this week. I leave with the team for the weekend, smiling when I step off the elevator to see Kyle waiting for me.
