I grinned. “Early start actually, just an unplanned distraction.”

Turning to Vorx, I tipped my head up for his hungry kiss. Turik chuckled at my dazed expression when Vorx released me and kissed my temple before they both moved off to the side.

“Come on, lover girl,” Angel said, hooking her arm through mine. “Eden’s still fighting mean, and Hannah needs a friend.”

“I am not fighting mean,” Eden said. “I’m fighting to win, and payback is going to be a bitch.”

Hannah snorted and motioned for me to stretch with her.

A short while later, I learned that Hannah’s idea of friendship was mocking my attempts to block her about two seconds prior to flipping me onto my back.

Again and again.

“I need a time out and a change in fighting technique,” I panted. “Distance is more my thing.”

Brenna laughingly handed me Angel’s bow.

“Step right up.”

Brenna was just as torturous, though. My arm felt like it wanted to fall off by the time she finally told me to take a break. I sat on the stump next to Angel.

“Can’t I just be a professional eater like you?” I asked.

Grinning, she withdrew yet another snack cake from one of her pockets and handed it to me.

“Your kid is going to come out with vanilla filling if you don’t lay off of these,” I said, opening my own.

“See, Shax! Even the new girl knows I’m eating too many of these things. Fruit-based snacks next time. I mean it.”

“It had a strawberry on the box.”

She sighed and looked at me. “He is so incredibly sweet.”

I grinned and bit into my snack cake. Even pregnant and sore, Angel never got short with Shax. It was clear that they loved each other to pieces.

A call went out somewhere else in the neighborhood. While it sounded urgent, the fey around us grunted and grinned.

“What was that?” I asked when Hannah stopped what she was doing and picked up her bow.

“Crap. They’re early. Be at Emily’s in an hour,” she said, pointing at me. “You can pretend to care about knitting and keep me company.”

Angel chuckled and waited until Merdon was jogging after Hannah before explaining.

“The group from Tenacity is coming,” Angel said, standing with a wince. “They’re driving here today. Two trucks. Some of the people—women mostly—are staying here for the training that Emily coordinated. Half the fey are either running to get in line to carry a female or gathering around Emily’s and Julie’s to start the lines to carry them home.”

“You said some of the people are staying here. What about the rest?”

“Ryan asked for more volunteers to help set up the new place. Once the drivers drop off their passengers, the remaining people are loading up some of the extra supplies we have here and heading out again. Stay away from the storage shed for a few hours. It’s going to be chaos.”

“It sounds like I won’t have any free time until dinner, anyway. But thanks for the warning. See you tomorrow.”

I waved goodbye to Brenna and let Turik carry me home. He asked twice what hurt and how tired I was, but I assured him I wasn’t overly sore or tired, even though I did have a few aches.

As soon as we were in the house, I used my own two feet to walk to the bedroom, shedding my clothing along the way. A glance over my shoulder showed Vorx only a step behind, and I had his full attention.

A short time later, I lay back on top of Vorx. His hard length continued to twitch inside of me as his chest rose and fell with his harsh breathing. My chest did the same.

Legs spread over Vorx’s, I lifted my head and looked at Turik, who watched me closely.
