It’s not much of a risk to reach across the table and touch her arm. “That’s not true. You’ve got me, too.”

Traffic on FL-826comes to a crawl, and I take advantage of the stop-and-go flow to slip my hand beneath the high slit of Nova’s skirt, tucking it under the crook of her knee. God, I love living in the south, where we can drive around with the top down on a mid-January afternoon. I love living in a place where I can ogle Nova’s perfect legs on any given day.

“Eyes on the road, Hotshot.” Her fingers wrap around my wrist.

“Don’t.” I tighten my grip. “I’ve spent years thinking about driving Snowball with you in that seat and my hand in this exact spot. You can’t cut me off so soon, Dimples.”

Nova grins, showing off those little dents I never tire of. I wag my brows, turning my attention back to the road as the traffic clears ahead of us.

“How far away is this next place anyway?”

“You’re still not familiar with the city, huh?”

“Don’t give me crap. I stay in my little circle. I have no reason to drive north of Miami Beach.” Out of the corner of my eye, I catch her yanking her ponytail free and twisting her tangled hair into a bun. “I certainly see no reason for you to live all the way up in Davie or Southwest Ranches. I don’t care how many players live up there.”

I should bite my tongue, but I don’t. “I sort of gathered that was your take when you wrinkled your nose at every place we looked at.”

“It’s a one-hour commute, Dev. I’ll never see you.”

You would if you moved in with me.I don’t make the offer. Not yet. I still can’t figure out what her deal is with us living together, and with everything surrounding Tara the past week, I haven’t been in the mindset to rock the boat.

Nova tips her dark sunglasses down her nose, looking around. “Wait. We’re behind the airport. Where are you taking me?”

“Coral Gables.”

“Coral Gables. Isn’t that like—”

“Five minutes from here? Yes.”

“Devin.” She plucks my hand from her leg. “You drove me thirty miles north when you have a place on your list that’s only fifteen minutes from my condo.”

“I asked Sarah for options, and she gave me options.” Truth is, settling on a place to live is risky until I sign a long term contract. Unless I make myself entirely indispensable to the Sharks, there’s always the chance I’m traded from Miami.

“She’s showing you condos too, isn’t she? Or apartments?”

“Nov, baby, I don’t want a small place. I need a place I can stretch when I’m home. Somewhere to work out. A place for guests, a place for my girl.”

Her head bobs like she understands, but she says nothing.

“If you don’t like this one, there are some places becoming available now that the Dolphin’s season is over down on the water in Cocoplum, but I’m looking at nearly twenty to rent those.”

Nova coughs, choking on my words. “Twenty thousand dollars? A month?”

“That’s the price you pay for waterfront mansions.”

“And a waste of money if it’s all rent and no mortgage.”

While it’s not suntanning weather, the beach is perfect for a lazy stroll after the stress of looking at rentals. With my sandals dangling in one hand, my feet sink into the sand. The sun beams down, warming through my cardigan under the light breeze. My hand in Devin’s, I admire his profile as we walk, glancing his way every few steps.

“You know, the ocean’s that way.” A smirk tugs the edge of his mouth.

“You have a problem with me checking out my boyfriend?”
