I was pretty darn happy for myself. There was a hot tub calling my name.

“You got your Graham,” she added.

“I guess I did.” I smiled.

“And your soul mate.”

“That too.”

“DARLING.” PATRICK KNOCKED ON THEattic door.

The photographer had the brilliant idea that we should get ready up here. She loved the ambience and thought it would make for some beautiful photos. She brought plenty of lights to make it viable.

Mom rushed to the door, already wearing her mother-of-the-brides dress, which was more like a champagne ball gown. I was surprised she wasn’t wearing a tiara. You had to love the woman. Mom opened the door a crack. “You naughty boy. You can’t see the bride before the wedding. It’s bad luck.”

“I need to speak to her—it’s urgent.”

A worried glance passed between me and Charlotte, who was doing my hair.

I stood, dressed in a red silk robe, and rushed toward the door. I didn’t believe in silly superstitions.

Mom stood in front of the door shaking her head.

“It will be fine,” I assured her. “I’m not even in my dress, and he’s already seen me this morning.”

“Oh, I suppose.” She sounded put out.

I snuck out the door and closed it behind me.

Patrick stood in awe, his eyes roving over me. He was wearing dark dress pants and a half-buttoned white shirt. “Isabelle, you take my breath away.”

The feeling was mutual. “I’m only in a robe.”

“A very revealing one at that.”

I looked down at the short robe showing off plenty of my waxed and polished legs. Then I touched my hair, which was swept into an elegant updo. Charlotte had beautifully tamed most of my curls, leaving some down to frame my face.

“Wait until tonight,” I purred.

He tugged on my robe, drawing me closer. “Let’s escape now.”

“You’ll have to get past my mother, lover boy.”

“I’m willing to give it a shot.” He leaned in and ravished my neck in kisses, his stubble tickling my skin.

I threw my head back, loving every second of it. “Is this what was so urgent?”

“Yes,” he groaned. “I mean, no.” He abruptly stopped.

“Everything all right?”

“Yes.” He took a breath. “It’s just, I received an interesting call moments ago.”

“From whom?”

“Our favorite dirtbag,” he deadpanned.

My heart began racing. “Is he backing out of the deal?”
