Jace laughs. “You’re such a proud mother fucker; I’d love to see that too.”

“I have no intentions of groveling to anyone,” I mutter.

It takes me three days to work up the courage to go back to Ivy’s house. I’ve been telling myself that it was to give her time to cool down, but the truth is that I dread a confrontation with her again. She’s argumentative and difficult.

As I march up to her door, I get the idea to ask her out to lunch. Maybe in public, she’ll be more reasonable. I adjust my shirt and then ring the bell. Heavy footsteps sound on the other side of the door before it’s flung open, and the bearded guy stands there.

“Yes?” he says in that rude way he has of speaking.

“I’m here to see Ivy,” I say, irritated at finding him again.

He stares at me for a long ten seconds. “I’ll see if she wants to see you.”

The asshole shuts the door on my face, leaving me stewing as I wait for the next five minutes. I’m about to knock again when the door flies open, and Ivy stands there looking fresh as if she’s just come from taking a shower.

Her beauty hits me anew, and for a few seconds, I’m rendered speechless. Then I remember my mission. “Hi, I’ve come to take you for lunch.”

She narrows her eyes. “You might want to rephrase that.”

Fuck. I should have said that better. It was not the way I ask a woman out on a date, but I can’t think of going for lunch with Ivy as a date. More of a business lunch to work out how we’ll navigate this unplanned world of parenthood.

“I’d be honored if you’d let me take you out for lunch,” I say.

“No.”

I stare at her in disbelief. The nerve of the woman. “Why make me rephrase if you were going to say no anyway?”

She grins. “I just thought it was a good opportunity to teach you some manners.”

“Look, I know the last time I was here, we didn’t exactly end things on a good note. I’d like to rectify that. Over lunch.”

She stares at me for a few seconds. “Fine, on one condition.”

“Anything?”

“Don’t mention the word termination again. Okay?”

I heave out a sigh of relief. “I promise.” I already know she’s made up her mind about keeping the baby. And to be honest, the idea of having a child is becoming attractive to me.

With this child, I’ll never have to worry about having an heir. That part of my life will be sorted.

“Give me a few minutes to change,” Ivy says and throws the door wide open. “Do you want to wait inside?”

“Sure.”

The bearded guy is in the living room watching TV. He throws me an unfriendly glance and continues scrolling through the channels. I sit down and study the house where my child will be living. It is clean, though sparsely furnished. My gaze returns to the bearded guy, and I wonder how he fits into all this.

Ivy returns a few minutes later, wearing a gorgeous summer dress that shows off her shapely figure and legs. I’m not averse to a beautiful woman, though I must remind myself that my interest in Ivy is not romantic. She’s merely the vessel carrying my child and the heir of The Anderson Clinic.

I can’t keep my eyes off her curvy ass as she walks ahead of me to the car. I open the door for her, and when she slides in, I bang it shut. She smells so feminine. I definitely have a libido problem when I’m around Ivy, but I’m a healthy man, and she’s a sexy, beautiful woman. It’s to be expected.

“Nice car,” she says when I enter the driver’s side.

“Thank you.” I glance back at the house. “Is that bearded guy your boyfriend?”

“Who, Peter? No. He’s my best friend and roommate,” Ivy says.
