I can’t resist teasing him. “You can deliver our baby, can’t you? You’re a doctor.”

A sheen of sweat forms on his forehead, and I laugh.

“Don’t tease me, sweetheart. I can’t handle it right now,” Alec says.

“Okay, I won’t. I’ll just take a quick shower, and we can go.” I’m hoping to buy some time before we have to go to the hospital.

Alec reluctantly agrees, but I can feel him pacing outside the bathroom. We leave for the hospital half an hour later.

“Please drive slowly.” I’ve never seen Alec like this. It’s sweet and endearing, and I can’t wait to see him as a dad.

In the hospital, he parks the car right at a side entrance I never noticed when I shadowed him and Dylan. A uniformed worker appears with a wheelchair, and Alec helps me into it. I’m wheeled up to the third floor and into a private room. More like a suite. Dylan and Jace are standing in the small area set up with seats and a coffee table.

“What is this, a welcoming party?” I ask.

“We’re about to be uncles. It’s a big day for us,” Dylan says.

“How are you feeling?” Jace asks.

“Pretty good under the circumstances,” I quip.

“Molly should be here in a few minutes,” Alec says. “And your parents are on the way to the airport.”

“Great.” A contraction takes hold. This one is so strong it takes my breath away and makes me moan loudly.

Everyone rushes to my side.

“Are you okay? Can we do anything?”

“Listen, guys; if you want to stay with us, you have to be cool. You can’t go into panic mode every time I get a contraction,” I scold them.

“Yes, of course,” Dylan says as though he hadn’t been party to it.

Alec helps me onto the bed.

“Are your parents coming?” I ask him.

“I’ll call them when the baby is born. Not a moment sooner. Believe me; you can’t handle another Anderson right now.”

I laugh.

I’m relieved when Molly arrives. As much as I love having Alec and his brothers, they are too panicky to be of any real use. Molly rubs my back and breaths with me during contractions.

“I’ll be better the second time around,” Alec whispers to me.

By then, the contractions are coming faster, and the pain is getting intense. “Who says there will be a second time?” I bark at him.

He doesn’t take it personally and grins at me in response.

Our baby boy makes his way into the world at six in the evening. After oohing and aahing, everyone leaves the three of us alone. Alec holds our blue-eyed baby boy. He leans forward to kiss my forehead.

“I love you guys so much. You have no idea how happy you’ve made me, and now this.”

“You’ve made me happy too. The happiest I’ve ever been.”

THE END

Thank You
