Ares and Sebastian’s voices broke me out of my thoughts. I could hear them talking outside the bathroom door, although most of what they were saying only came across as mumbled words to me. Ares’ cackling made me wish I could hear them. His laughter was contagious, and I could use a lift right now.Wait, I can do magic. Why not just try to hear them?If I could build a mind ward by just thinking it into existence, would the same thing apply to my hearing? I focused on their conversation, and imagined their volume increasing. My ears popped, and their words came in loud and clear, as if they were in the room with me.

“How do you think she’ll do at her first lesson?”Bash asked.

“My Little Goddess will kill that lesson and bury the body,”Ares laughed.

Bash’s exasperated sigh told me it was far too early for him to deal with Ares’ brand of crazy. My stomach growled, reminding me of the limited time I had to shower, get ready, and eat. After I toweled off, I found Bash sitting on my bed next to an entire outfit. He must have picked it out for me while I was showering. High waisted black active leggings, a white lace bra and pantie set, and a pink cropped sweatshirt. The ensemble seemed familiar.

“This outfit is similar to the one you wore when I first saw you in the park,” Bash said, smiling at me. The gesture was sweet, and I melted at his thoughtfulness and attention to detail. He got up, walking over to hug my naked body, running his hands from my waist to cup my ass. “I’m sorry for ruining your first brunch with us and freaking you out. You were overwhelmed already with all the changes, and you didn’t need our bickering on top of that.” He kissed my temple, resting his head on top of mine while he squeezed me tighter. “I asked Olga to make the entire meal all over again and convinced Desmond to move your lesson back an hour.”

“Sebastian, that’s so thoughtful,” I gasped. A happy tear rolled down my face. “You really care about me, don’t you?”

“I’m not sure you’ll ever understand. It’s beyond caring for you, Diana.” He tilted my chin up and slanted his lips over mine for a lingering kiss, then nipped my bottom lip.

I wasn’t sure what he meant by that, but it was so romantic that I didn’t want to question it and ruin the moment. With everything going on and another new power I couldn’t control, I just wanted to enjoy something positive. Taking my hand, he walked us to the dining room so I could enjoy my special breakfast.

Diana entered the dining room with Bash hot on her heels. He guided her to her chair with his hand splayed on her lower back, a few inches of her creamy skin exposed by the pink cropped sweatshirt she wore. Her face was clean–makeup free except a red-tinted chapstick on her lips–and her hair tied on top of her head in a bun with a few wisps hanging down to frame her face. The way her high waisted workout pants stretched across her thighs, cupping her ass as it bounced with every step toward the table, reminded me why I was thankful to be seated. The table hid how my cock hardened beneath my boxer-briefs and pants. I felt my blood heat as my horns poked at the skin on my forehead, begging to pop.

I hated that she caused such a reaction from me. I had sat at my desk last night to finalize her lessons for the week, but couldn’t concentrate. My eyes had constantly strayed to the empty chair across from me, and I remembered how delectable she looked as she sat there. How soft her hand felt when we made our deal. The husky sound of her voice when she called me sir. I knew she was being sarcastic, but hearing her call me that gave me hope for something more with her, even though I shouldn’t want it. I couldn’t afford any distractions from the mission, including one as beautiful and tempting as her. I needed to keep a level head so I could lead the team.

Ares sauntered over to Diana and ran his hand under her top, brushing it across her stomach as he kissed her on the cheek. He pulled her chair out and took the other seat next to her. I wondered what it would feel like to have her sit on my lap, to feel her warm backside press against my groin as I fed her breakfast.

“Good morning, Desmond.” Her voice snapped me out of my inner musings.

“Diana,” I nodded, keeping myself cold and impersonal. I needed to put some distance between us. “Since we had to push everything back by an hour, we’ll be working an extra two hours to make up for it.”

“Yes sir. I’m really excited to get to work.” I didn’t miss the way she eyed me when she called me sir. Her sarcastic tone of voice made her even more attractive. Even though I knew I couldn’t, I wanted to spank the sass out of her.

She smiled at me, holding my eyes as she parted her mouth to eat a piece of bacon. The way her shiny lips wrapped around the strip of meat before she bit off a piece was sinful. She swallowed and licked a stray crumble from her lips. I bet her mouth would be more enticing if she was licking my cum off her lips instead.Fuck, I had to get her out of my head.

“Yeah, you’re gonna havea lotof work to do,” Mal chimed in as he strutted to the table, his patronizing voice carrying from across the room. He sat down on my right, then started to fill his plate. “You don’t know how to do anything, you have no training or knowledge of the magical community, and you don’t even know what your powers are.”

“Hmmm, maybe you can educate me then. What’s a hellbound?” Her saccharine sarcasm caught Mal off guard. I didn’t think he expected her to be so cutthroat.

“None of your fucking business,” he snapped. “If you know what’s good for you, you’ll shut the fuck up and eat your food.”

Bash growled, slamming his fist on the table. Diana covered it, running her thumb over the back of his hand, calling off her personal guard dog. I wondered how she didn’t know she was bonded to Bash. How could she not feel the attraction? The change in him since he claimed her was stark, even for the short amount of time it had been.

“Well, it seems like I know how to push buttons, so I can at least dosomething.” She turned her attention to me. “Desmond, I’ve got a magical update for you, since you asked for them.”

“Do tell.” I knew her powers would gradually come in, like witches’ and warlocks’ powers normally did. But I wasn’t used to the magnitude of power she had because it was so abnormal for her kind.

“When I was in the shower this morning, I could hear Bash and Ares talking, but not what they were saying. I concentrated on being able to hear them, then there was this pop in my ears. I was able to hear them loud and clear, like they were in the shower with me. Is it normal not to have it all the time, and be able to switch it on and off like that?”

“Trust me, Little Goddess, we wish we were in there with you. I’m disappointed in myself for not thinking of it, and this oversight will be rectified tomorrow morning.” He winked at Diana, running his hand up her arm.

“Ares,” I warned him. I needed to keep this conversation on track before he derailed it. “Yes, those with superhuman senses can choose when to use them and to what degree.” She leaned back in her chair, and her focus glazed over for a second. I’m sure she had enough to think about.

“Oh! Before I forget, Diana glowed!” Ares shouted, getting all of our attention.

“She glowed the way you do?” Bash questioned.

“Yeah. Last night before bed, I was knuckles deep inside Diana, and she was riding my fingers. She glowed really brightly right before she orgasmed, and then it softened before it went away completely.”

To her credit, Diana didn’t look ashamed at all. When Mal gave her a derisive huff, she only cast a smirk at him. His ice cold eyes glared back, as he twirled his knife in his hand like he was contemplating all the different ways he could butcher her at the table. Bash’s white knuckled grip on the table spoke volumes. The protective possessiveness he had for Diana was a hallmark characteristic incubi had toward their sources. Yet, apparently he was okay sharing her with Ares? The entire situation was interesting.

The superhearing and glowing exhumed the argument of what kind of magical being Diana was. When she tried to escape into the woods after we brought her home, she did move faster than I expected her to, so she was developing superspeed. Diana was a witch though, and they didn’t possess superhuman powers like demons, gods, and hellbounds did. How powerful was she, exactly?

“Diana, I’m going to fade into another area of the house, and then I’m going to ask you a question. When I come back, tell me what I asked. Just focus on me and it should work the same way it did earlier.”
