She freezes, a spark of sadness in her eyes, "I don't want to confuse her. I mean with the wedding and now us. I think we should just take it slow."

I use my finger to push her hair behind her ear, "As long as slow doesn't mean stop."

She laughs, "It's just a yellow light. Proceed with caution."

I turn around to make my way back into the house with Ellie, unable to hide my grin.

"See you tomorrow!" She calls out, and I toss my hand up, refusing to show her the look on my face.

I put Ellie to bed. Jet is curled up into a golden ball next to her, and I settle into my room. My bed feels empty without Hanna, but I know it's only temporary, and she'll be here soon enough, so I hang on to that.

We get up the following morning, and Ellie lets Jet outside. I sit and wait patiently for Hanna. Not because I want Ellie to leave but because I want Hanna here.

The doorbell rings, and Ellie's feet race to the door to let her mama in.

"Hey, mama!" She yells, wrapping her in a hug as Jet nearly knocks her down.

"Hey, sweet pea."

"Sorry," I apologize, pulling Jet back by his collar.

She smiles and takes a seat at the counter as I pour her a cup of coffee.

"Thanks," she beams, taking the cup from my hand.

"Welcome. I'm forever indebted to you when it comes to coffee."

She laughs, nearly spitting it back into the cup with a snort.

She looks over the rim of the cup, hiding her middle finger to the side of it.

I laugh, "Ellie wants to go see baby Jackson today. Judson and JC said they would pick her up if it was okay with you."

She sets her cup on the counter, shaking her head in agreement, "Yeah, sure."

"What are you doing today?" I ask.

"Well, I was coming here to pick Ellie up, but now I guess I'm not doing anything."

"Go out with me?" I grin.

Ellie's voice fills in for Hanna, "First ya'll are kissin', and now you're goin' on a date?"

I lean against the counter, "I sure hope so. Your mama looks extra pretty today."

Hanna grins, "You gonna put a shirt on?"

I roll my eyes, "You know you like me better without it."

I smack my chest playfully, earning a snicker from Ellie, "Don't do that. It's embarrassing, Dad."

"Fine, Fine," I walk back toward the bedroom, "I'll cover the goods."

Hanna appears in the doorway, "Where do you wanna go?"

I smile, "How about a swim?"

Her eyes go wide, an unexpected smile spreading across her cheeks.
