“Oh, you guys have chess, too?” I ask, causing Jasper to whirl around. Necos raises an eyebrow, but doesn’t comment on the new addition.

“Is that…?” Jasper trials off as if he’s scared to ask.

“Yes,” Zohar says, shaking his head.

“Room for a dragon, Necos?” Eirik asks with a smirk. Necos nods, still silent. “Perfect.”

Now that my witchmeas fate has been settled, it licks my hand, the rough feeling of his tongue combined with the pure heat making me giggle, before flying away. I watch as he starts exploring, and he settles on top of the bookshelf.

“So… you’ve bonded a witchmea,” Jasper says, his eyes focused on my tiny gold dragon. I nod, pretty proud of myself. Today has been a rollercoaster of ups and downs.

I had my meeting with Mr Downey, which mostly went okay. He wasn’t happy with Headmaster Whisperfelt, but is grateful to Necos for taking us all in. He’s going to be adding security to the place, something I think Necos will fight him over, and he still wants to hear about my progress.

It didn’t go badly, at all.

“What does he eat?” I ask, tilting my head as I think about it. “I didn’t get that far with Bardo.”

A portal opens, and Necos groans.

“What’s wrong?” I ask as Mael, Ryes, Etrix, and Ciar walk through the portal joking around in their workout gear. I’m surprised they’re even talking after the way Zohar made it seem, but it soothes me to know that they’re over their fight.

“Holy fucking shit!” Mael gasps, darting out of the way as my witchmeas flies over to him.

“I’m sick of the portals,” Necos says.

“Why the fuck is there a witchmeas here?” Etrix asks.

“Howthe fuck is there a witchmeas here?” Ciar asks, and they both look at each other in shock before turning to me.

“ZoZo?” Ryes asks, his voice subdued. I look at him and gasp, seeing the bruises, the split lip, and the swollen cheek.

“Fix him!” I plead, clutching at Zohar’s hand. My wateranima nexumsighs before doing as I asked. Ryes’s face clears up, but it doesn’t stop him from looking so crestfallen. “Um, so, I bonded a witchmeas today. Somehow.”

“They initiate the bond, and you don’t really get a say,” Necos says.

“How the fuck did you find one?” Ciar asks as my little guy comes to land on my shoulder. He huffs out a breath, the smoke cloud tickling my ear.

“He’s kind of cute,” Jasper says, standing up and hesitantly walking over to me. “May I?”

I nod, and he goes to touch my guy, but it roars, and I startle, nearly dropping him off my shoulder.

“He can fly,” Ryes says softly. There’s none of the teasing he’d normally use, and I know it’s because of our little argument.

“Little?” Mael scoffs, rolling his eyes before a smirk appears on his face. “Yes, a little beating for the little argument.”

“Argument?” Jasper asks.

“Your room is upstairs at the end of the corridor on the left,” Necos says, directing his words to me.

“Thanks,” I say. I grab Ryes’s hand, and use the other one to steady my witchmeas, before backing out of the room. There’s a lot of amusement, but I ignore it all.

This is between Ryes and me, and yeah, sure, all of them since we’re connected.

It doesn’t mean we need an audience for it.
