“I might not be as good as Zohar, but Icanhelp.”

I close my eyes, and whisper, “Sana.” In my head, I focus on removing the pain, of soothing the aches and the pains, of stopping the burning in his throat and his chest.

I might not be able to fix him completely, but I can take the symptoms away.

Even just for a little bit.

“Shit,” Ryes says, his eyes flying open. They’re bright blue, just for a moment, before settling back to their usual pale blue.

“How do you feel?” I ask, and he beams at me.

“So much better,” he says, but then he frowns. “My voice is still weird.”

“Yeah… I can’t heal it,” I remind him. “But I do kind of… block the pain?”

“Nifty enough,” he says. “Thank you, baby.”

“Anytime.”

“Now that I’m not feeling as bad—”

I shake my head, and he frowns at me. “What?”

“You’re still unwell, Ry. You just can’t feel it. Besides, didn’t you say we were going to be doing dreamscaping during our sessions together?”

“Yes.”

“Well, we can do that during our class tomorrow,” I say. I grab another biscuit, giggling when Mael tears it, and dunks it into my tea.

“How was Professor Bellend today?”

“He was fine,” I reply with a shrug. “He’s working on teaching me how to activate the runes on all of you.”

Mael rolls his eyes as Ryes mutters, “Of course he is.”

“What’s that meant to mean?”

“Bellend just wants to—”

I gasp. “I just realised what you called him.”

Ryes smirks. “Not my fault his surname is so easy to adjust,” he says, and I groan. “I’m all for the easy win, ZoZo.”

“Yeah, you should know that by now,” Mael adds.

“When do you think the others will be back?” I ask, and Ryes cuddles closer into me.

“With the attack on the castle, we’re a little busier than normal,” Ryes says. “I’m sorry. I don’t know.”

“You’ll never be alone,” Mael says. “But yeah, they’re calling for us at an alarming rate.”

I’ve noticed. “I don’t mean to whine. I know you’re all doing important stuff.”

“Ellie, you’re allowed to miss us,” Mael says gently. “You’re allowed to be worried. How about we do some baking? You’ve got an early morning with Etrix—”

I shake my head. “He’s on assignment.”

“How many classes have you missed this week?” Mael asks, blowing out a huff.
