“No. I just talked to Hunter. Remember, the forest is massive, but we won’t stop until we find her.”

She nodded, but he could tell she hadn’t gone back to sleep.

“I should call Nicole and give her an update.”

He nodded and handed her the phone, sat them up against the headboard, and kept her against his chest.

“Hey, Nicole, it’s me.”

“What? I can hear it in your voice,” Nicole said.

“For some reason, she was pulled over to the side of the road, and no one can find her.”

“What? Why?”

“They don’t know yet, but they’ve got a large group out looking for her.”

“I’m not that far. If I see the group, I’ll pull over and help.”

“It’s a huge forest. It would be easy for her to get lost unless she stays with one of the rescuers,” Roman said.

“Who the hell was that?” Nicole said.

He couldn’t keep from grinning at the blush that covered his mate’s face.

“I’ll have to explain it more later. He’s someone special, and I can’t wait for you to meet him.”

“Wow, that was fast, Brenna.”

Brenna glanced at Roman and narrowed her eyes whenhis grin widened. “It’s unusual circumstances.”

“I’m anxious to find out what they are, and it sounds like you’re doing okay, so let’s worry about Simone right now.”

“Call me when you get there.”

“I will.”

Brenna hung up the phone and looked at Roman. “Can we go out and help?”

His first instinct was to protect her and keep her away from danger, but he could sense how anxious she was. “I’ll take you out, but you never go away from me. Not one foot. Got it?”

“I won’t.”

“Then let’s get dressed.”

Chapter Eight

Brenna sat in the passenger side of the truck Roman was driving. He held her hand the whole time, and she knew from the tic in his jaw that he was against bringing her out. She loved him even more because he was still letting her.

“I’ll stay by you, I promise,” she said.

“You better believe it, pet.”

She sighed, turned her head, and looked out her window. Her gaze moved forward when she started to see a line of cars and trucks along the road on either side.

She was so glad this many people came to help find her friend, but the fact it was taking this many made her fear spike.

He squeezed her hand. “Easy.”
