She looked over at him and exhaled. “I’m good.”

He lifted her hand and kissed her knuckles. “I know.”

Roman found a place to park and got out. “Get out this way, pet.”

She moved over to him and let him lift her out before taking her hand. A tent had been set up with tables underneath and several men standing around.

“Where’s Hunter?” she asked.

Roman pointed. “He’ll be up here at the command post to keep everything moving.”

“Okay.”

Roman made sure to keep her steady over the uneven terrain.

Hunter’s head snapped up when they got close. “Hey, guys.”

They skirted around a few tables.

“How’s the search going?” Roman asked.

“We still have not found a sign of her.” He looked down at her. “I’m sorry. We’re doing our very best.”

“I know.” She was glad when Roman put his arm around her.

“We’ve already scanned a thirty-square-mile area.”

“Wow, how can you do that?” she asked.

Hunter looked at his brother. “Is it all right to tell her?”

Roman nodded. “Yeah, she knows about us. I’ve even shown her my wolf.”

Hunter nodded and turned back to her. “We have several wolves out because they can search a lot more space and faster than humans.”

“Use whatever you can.” She looked up at Roman. “Can we search?”

Roman shook his head. “Your body is going through a change right now. That’s one reason you’re so tired.”

“Change?”

“Yes, every time I come inside you, a little more of your DNA changes. Eventually, it will make you stronger, but while you’re in the first phase, you will be more tired than normal.”

“I’ll go out and look if you two can stay here and command the post,” Hunter said.

Roman nodded. “We can do that.”

Brenna nodded even though she wanted to be a part of the search.

“I’ll check in with you. We don’t have a lot of daylight left. The wolves can stay out longer, though,” Hunter said.

She rested her head against Roman’s chest as she watched Hunter take off into the forest.

“Here, have a seat, pet, while I go over the maps.”

She sat down and stared into the forest.Come on, Simone. You’re tough. Just stay safe until we can find you.

She had no idea how much time had passed when she heard her name called. She looked up to see Nicole headed her way.
