Brenna stroked her finger over his chest later that night. They’d just heard from Hunter that Simone still had not been found, but they had some evidence of which way she was headed. She was not going to give up hope of ever finding her friend.
“Do you think they’ll find her?” she asked Roman.
He slid his hand up and down her back. “I really do. It’s a large forest. It will take time.”
She hated to ask her next question, but she had to know. “Is there a possibility that she’s already dead?”
“Yes, but the wolves would know it. The scent of that would be too strong to hide.”
She exhaled.
“I do have some good news, mate.”
She looked up at him. “What?”
“We’re pregnant.”
It took her a moment before she understood what he said. She sat up and stared at him. “We’re pregnant?”
“Yes.”
“How do you know?”
“Your scent changed.”
Her eyes widened. “But we’ve only been together a few days. How can you tell when it would be so early? A home pregnancy test probably wouldn’t catch it.”
“Your scent is imprinted in my brain. Even the slightest change I can detect.”
“So, I’ll never be able to surprise you, will I?”
“Not about this.”
“That’s rotten,” she said, making him laugh.
“You can surprise me in other ways.”
“That’s true.” She slapped her hands together and thenrubbed them together. “Oh, yeah, I’ll find all kinds of ways.” She smiled at the look of apprehension in his eyes.
“Lord, you know wolves can get gray hair.”
She giggled. “I think you’ll look sexy. Don’t they call handsome men with gray hair silver foxes?”
He growled. “I’m not a fucking fox. The damn things are scavengers.”
She laughed. “Sorry.”
He snorted and pulled her down against this side. “No, you’re not. But I don’t care. As long as I have you in my life and arms, I’m the happiest man on earth.”
Brenna squeezed him tightly. “And I’m the luckiest woman.” She meant every word.
She’d be the happiest if they could find Simone, and it would be the ultimate gift if her friends found mates as she had. It was something else to pray for.
