Xander took a warning step closer. “You moved off your path, and I saw you push her. You want to argue with me, we’ll take this higher, and you can kiss your future goodbye. I have the power to end you.” With every word he spoke, the women got paler.

He could do it

She’d hurt his woman. He wouldn’t rest until they hurt as well. Simple as that.

“Er,” the one who had actually pushed her mumbled.

“Louder for her to hear!” he snapped.

“I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to knock you down.” She visibly shook.

“It’s fine. Apology accepted,” Willa said.

To him, it wasn’t accepted. He glared at them, shook his head, and turned his attention back to Willa. When he caught sight of her torn cardigan, he looked behind him, but the women had used his distraction as a means to escape.

“I’m going to have to cancel breakfast,” Willa said.

“Nonsense. I will help you with this.” He held her arm, and it didn’t look bad, but he wasn’t human.

Willa winced slightly, and he helped her into his car. “You don’t have to do this,” she said.

“I want to take care of you.” Pulling away from the curb, he headed back to his hotel. He wasn’t too far from the main campus.

“Thank you,” Willa said. “I should have been more careful.”

He expected her to argue with him, but now he merely smiled and nodded. He was going to take care of her.

They arrived at his room less than five minutes later. He wasn’t surprised to see Tyson had run off. His son hated him even more in the morning. Xander wouldn’t allow him to make a stupid mistake.

Tyson’s hatred of humans wasn’t healthy, and it certainly wasn’t anything he’d said to him that had evoked those kinds of feelings.

“Will Tyson be upset that I’m here?” Willa asked.

“No. My son does in fact like you.”

“He does?” The surprise in her voice wasn’t hard to detect.

“You may be the only one.”

After closing his door, he brought her forward and placed her in one of the chairs in the main room. The bedroom was less than five feet away.

He finally had her in his hotel room, which was exactly where he wanted her.

He found a small first-aid kit in the bathroom. After grabbing it, he headed back to his woman. She had used her cardigan in an attempt to hide the bloody scrape. “I don’t want you to get in trouble for damaging the furniture if it bleeds again.”

Did she not realize how sweet and caring she was?

He had to convince her to be his. To become pregnant with his child. Maybe when he was finally mated to her, that would put any doubt out of her mind.

Chapter Five

Willa would live. She’d been more embarrassed than hurt by the fall. People rarely cared about her life or feelings, so it was addicting when Xander went above and beyond to take care of her. In truth, she wanted to be near him. Needed it.

This was the first time in her life she truly felt alive outside of a romance novel. This was real, and the longer he stuck around, the more she began to believe that he wasn’t trying to trick her. Although it confused her why someone like him was interested in someone like her, she was going to stop questioning it. Maybe things were finally turning around for her.

He stood near a mahogany bar. “Apparently this hotel room is fully stocked. Let me get you something?”

“It’s a little early for a drink,” she said. Willa looked at her watch. “It’s even early for breakfast.”
