“Right. Of course,” he said. “You tell me what you’d like, and I’ll have them deliver it right to our room.”

Our roomsounded intimate, but she didn’t correct him.

“You know, maybe we should talk first.”

He frowned, sitting down on the edge of the sofa. “What’s wrong?”

“After last night, I’m not sure what to think or feel. I mean, you’ll be going home soon, back to your real life. I’m not the kind of girl who has flings with students’ parents.”

“I have no intention of leaving without you.”

She froze. What alternative universe was she living in right now? “What are you saying?”

“We only get one chance at true love, Willa. Are you telling me you feel nothing for me? Did you feel even a twinge of connection last night?”

Of course, she did, but that didn’t mean she could just follow her desires—right? She was so confused. True love wasfiction. Real life was full of disappointment. She’d learned those rules long ago.

“It doesn’t matter how I felt.” Willa played with her hands, feeling awkward and at a loss for the right words. “If everyone followed their hearts, the world would be chaos.”

He smirked, and it was the sexiest thing she’d ever seen. He must have skipped shaving this morning as the scruff was coming in along his jawline, making him even more masculine—if that was possible.

“Is that what you believe? Maybe it’s quite the opposite and the world would be a better place if people stopped denying themselves.”

She swallowed hard. He made it sound so easy, but there were always consequences.

He moved to sit next to her, the sofa dipping in his direction. She still hadn’t answered him, her tongue tied and nerves firing hot.

“I’m forty-four years old, Willa. In my entire life, I’ve never felt the way I felt when I met you. I knew right away, before you even spoke.”

“How’s that possible?”

“Fate.”

She’d read all about true love and fate. It sounded beautiful on paper but was harder to believe in real life. “You really believe that?”

“Everything worked to bring us together. Tyson, his delinquency, my trip down here to the school. I have no regrets about anything if it brought us together.” This time, he reached out and ran the backs of his fingers along her jawline, a feather-light touch. Rather than pull away, she found herself closing her eyes and leaning into his hand. His deep, calm voice was almost hypnotic, pulling her into the same spell as last night.

“You hardly know me.”

“We have all the time in the world,” he said. “There are so many things I can show you.”

Did he mean some kind of natural wonder of the world or his big cock? Her face instantly flushed, and she opened her eyes again.

He was smiling, a devilish, knowing expression. It wasn’t like he could read her mind. Why was he looking at her like that?

“You feel it, even if you deny it,” Xander said. “Stop fighting what you know is meant to be.”

Yes, she wanted to give in to this beast of a man, but the logical part of her brain kept bringing her back to standard protocol—dating, flowers, years of courting. Women who fucked men after a date or two were classified as whores and frowned upon by society. She couldn’t deal with that, but this was more than a one-night stand. He said he wanted forever, claimed fate demanded they accept their place as a couple.

“Maybe. I mean, it’s possible, right?”

He leaned in close as he combed his hand into her hair, keeping her from moving back. The way he looked into her eyes made the entire world go away. It was just him and this magical pull between them.

“I want to make all your dreams come true,” he whispered close to her ear. She felt his breath, making her skin break out into gooseflesh.

He was too perfect, making it harder to believe what he said.

She never had a father in her life because of the fact most men were a-holes. Xander confused her on every level.
