She hesitated then nodded. “I’d like that.”

“Good. Come on. I want you to meet someone.”

“Who?”

“My sister, Tara.” He took her hand and led her to the stone spiral staircase that wound down to the heart of the castle. He was careful not to go too quickly. They were steep, and it was dark.

When they reached the base, he steered her past several suits of armor from the fifteenth century, a collection of steel and bronze spears, and portraits of ancestors who’d also called the castle home.

“This place is amazing,” Nisha said, her shoes clicking on the stone floor and echoing around the ancient walls.

He smiled at her. “I’m glad you like it. I hope you’ll feel at home here.”

“Is it just you and your sister?”

“No, my brother, Cal, and his new wife Bethany, live here too. But they’re away on honeymoon.”

“How nice.”

“And my sister’s husband, Devon, is in Eastern Europe on official dragon business.”

“Mmm.” She seemed distracted as though taking in the huge fireplaces, lofty ceilings, and grand windows.

“Ivor, is that you?”

“Yes, Tara, and we have company.”

Tara appeared from the vast room they used as a kitchen and to relax in when they were all together. “Ivor!” She clasped her hands under her chin. “You found her!” She beamed.

“Found who?” Nisha asked.

“You, my love. I found you.” He pulled her close, a sense of pride washing over him. “Tara, meet Nisha, my love, my mate, the one who completes me.”

“She’s beautiful.” Tara rushed over and took Nisha’shand. “You’re beautiful. Ivor has waited so long for you. We’vewaited so long for you.”

“You have?”

“Of course we have.” Tara pulled her into a tight hug. “And now finally you’re here. The story the stars tell is true. Let’s celebrate.”

Ivor knew exactly how he wanted to celebrate. He was heating up like a furnace, the urge to take Nisha as his own almost overwhelming. But he knew he couldn’t risk scaring her off with his intense desire for her. She’d shown incredible understanding and bravery so far, which of course she would, seeing as destiny had mapped their paths as one.

“Come, this way,” Tara said, scooting back into the kitchen, her long blonde hair swishing down her back.

Ivor smiled. “I’m sure you’re hungry, Nisha. It’s been a long time since you had lunch in the park.”

“And I didn’t eat all of that.” She smiled.

Her smile filled his heart with love and made his inner dragon flex with possessiveness. If he never looked at anything else other than her face, he’d be a happy man.

“I have made Welsh cakes, and there’s lamb cawl in the pot.” Tara put another log on the fire, sending small sparks skittering upward.

Above the flames, a cast-iron pot hung from a hook, delicious scents pouring from it.

“What’s that?” Nisha asked, pointing at a basket beside the logs. It contained a huge egg the color of a dew-laden mossy bank.

“This.” Tara squatted next to it and carefully ran her hand over the shiny surface. “Is the newest addition to our family. Due to hatch in five days.”

“Hatch?” Nisha looked at Ivor. “You mean it’s a … a … dragon?”
