His eyes darkened, and I shivered from the predatory way his gaze crawled lazily over me. “Good, because I love you more than words can ever convey.”

His arms tightened around me as he lifted me so that we were pressed against one another then brushed his lips across mine in that drugging way that made my knees weak. Then he whispered, “I’ll always be there to catch you.”

I swore I fell for him even harder. “I love you too.”

When he bent toward me for another kiss, our lips were only centimeters apart. Then his phone rang. A spark of mischievousness curved my mouth as I rolled my eyes, pushed away, and pivoted toward the bedroom, waving behind me. “Answer it. I’ll meet you in the pool.” The more I thought about swimming as the sun set quickened my pace so I didn’t miss it. He’d told me John would be calling, anyway. They needed to sync up about their financial company.

A lot of changes were in the works with Luc running the Brambilla family, and the more he and John talked, the better. The company was important to him, and he wanted to ensure it ran well and wasn’t touched by the Mafia part of his life, at least as much as he could.

I knew what he had in mind, and that was to keep a legitimate and legal business running the way it had been. If anyone could juggle both worlds, he could. I had complete faith in him and planned to continue to help.

I padded across the living room and into the opulent bedroom, noting the silence and pausing at the window as the ripples built across the Tyrrhenian Sea, their cadence morphing into larger waves with whitecaps dotting the landscape. As I dressed in my bikini and slipped on the plush white bathrobe that swathed my body in comfort, my mind danced over all that had changed. We were at a precipice. The lives we lived were over, and our next adventure had only begun.

The End
