″I’ll meet you at the jet in an hour.”

″Good,” I say, ending the call.

Chapter twenty

Theprivatejetisready by the time me, Da, and Sean reach the airport. We have a long, six-hour flight ahead of us. Plenty of time to come up with a plan. As we settle into our seats, my phone buzzes in the breast of my suit jacket.

I pull it out, smiling when I see it’s a text from Haley.

Sorry about Andi. I completely lost track of the days and forgot. I’ll make it up to you. Promise.

I quickly type out a text before dropping my phone back in its pocket.

It’s okay, Doc. I won’t be around this evening. Business calls. I will call you when I’m home.

″Are you going to tell us what your plan is and why you’ve had me ask my cousin to collect a respected man in the community?” Da asks, coughing.

″It depends. Have you scheduled a check-up like Haley instructed?”

Da grumbles, and I take that as a no.

I’m sure Haley doesn’t want the family knowing her business and she may not forgive me, but there’s only so much I can hide when I need their help.

I cross my leg over my knee and rest my head in my hand. “Haley admitted some things to me. But Jason Parkin has some penance to pay.”

Sean rests his elbows on the table, where he has his laptop propped up. “I was able to find a report that had been buried pretty deeply. I missed it last time because I didn’t know where to look or what I was looking for.”

His eyes dart to me and I see the look of anger plainly in them. He turns away, closing his laptop. “Let’s see what Jason has to say for himself. What’s your plan?”

″Tell me what the report says.”

He sighs, shaking his head. “It’ll only make you angry, Cal. No sense in going into this filled with rage. You should be calm. Tell me the plan.”

I sigh, pinching the bridge of my nose. I know he is right, so I decide not to argue. “He needs to be taken alive. It needs to be staged to look like he’s run away. A handwritten goodbye letter with his confessions.”

″And then what?” Da asks.

″And then he’s tortured until I say it’s time for him to die.”

″And how long is that? Do we bring him home with us?” Sean asks.

″He stays in Washington. We make it look like some type of accident. He stays, and I bring Haley out when it’s time to finish it.”

″Do you think that’s a good idea, son?” Da asks.

″No. I’m not sure. I’m not sure of anything. All I know is I want to fix what he broke. And that’s bloody impossible. So I’m going to do the next best thing. What else is there to do?”

Sean breathes heavily. “Shit. Da, I think Callum is catching feelings for a woman.”

I scowl, grabbing a pillow beside me, and toss it at him. He laughs, swatting it away.

″Well, he did wear a black suit to dinner, didn’t he?” Da continues with the teasing.

I roll my eyes, taking the glass of whiskey from the flight attendant in front of me. She brushes her fingers against mine, allowing them to linger a bit too long, and I realize that she’s one that’s been on the plane before.

One that I’ve allowed to blow me on previous trips.

I grimace at the thought. Not only do I have no interest, but I’ll also have to make sure she never works when I’m here again. Especially whenever I bring Haley on board. Jealous whores act like entitled cunts when they see a rich man they’ve fucked happy with another woman.
