I chuckle softly, rolling my eyes. “I’ll take the vodka. I’m going to need to be hammered for this shitshow.” Especially since I didn’t bring my meds along for my day trip to who the fuck knows where. I did manage to take them this morning, though. So, it shouldn’t take long for the buzz to set in, thank God.

Chapter thirty-seven

Amuffledsoundcomesfrom Jason as I approach the shipping container I’ve been keeping him in. I open the door to find him lying on the floor, handcuffed and attached to a long chain drilled into the ceiling. He’s covered in piss and has lost some weight since I was here last month.

″Good evening, Jason,” I say as I step inside. My voice is cool and welcoming, even though I feel anything but.

He looks up, squinting. “What do you want?”

Even in the dim light, his bruises and cuts are visible. I hold back a smile, satisfied that he’s healed. My cousins followed the instructions I gave them to cause Jason pain, but keep him alive so I could finish the job.

Jason isn’t wearing a shirt, so I can see the carving on his chest has healed. The word “pedophile” is scarring nicely. I grin with pride at my work.

I’ve never seen my carvings healed. Usually, the person I’m torturing is killed fairly quickly, so this experience is a new one for me.

″Here’s the thing, Jason Parkin.” I approach slowly, then squat in front of him so that we’re eye level with each other. “I’ve sent the pictures you have of all the girls you’ve violated to the press. They’ll be released tomorrow.”

″Please. I’m sorry. I never meant to hurt any of them. I swear it.”

My eyes narrow “It’s over, Jason. You die tonight.” The sick fuck begins to sob uncontrollably and I roll my eyes as I stand. ”Someone gag him and put him in the trunk. It’s time to go for a ride.”

I’d sedate him so he is quieter, more docile, but he needs to be lucid when I take his life.

I can’t cause him the pain that he’s caused Haley, but I can make sure he feels every bit of discomfort I inflict on him.

I light a cigarette as I leave the shipping container and walk towards the SUV that my brothers and Da are waiting in. Declan’s in the driver seat and hops out when I lean against the hood.

″Darragh’s son will follow us with Jason and a few of their men,” Dec says, swiping my smoke from me and pressing it to his lips. “The plane’s just landed. They’ll be at the site in about forty minutes.”

He hands me back my stick. I take it between my fingers and inhale. The nicotine settles in my bloodstream, giving me a quick buzz while frantic groans sound from somewhere behind me and I don’t have to look to know that they’re stuffing Jason in a car.

″This is so sick and twisted. What if she hates it?” I ask Declan, passing the cigarette back to him.

″Saoirse says she’s been drinking and has mellowed out a bit.”

I grunt, shaking my head. How did alcohol get on the plane? I press my thumb against my temple, rubbing to relieve the stress headache I’ve had for the past three weeks since Haley was attacked by Kirkland.

″Let’s get this over with.” I smash my smoke under the heel of my boot.

A black vehicle pulls up onto the hospital site about ten minutes after I’ve arrived. We broke ground a few days ago, so there are metal beams everywhere and some of the parking lot has already been poured.

Jason sits on a chair in the center of a dug out piece of dirt that has red flags marking out a square while I lean against a cement truck. Da and the brothers are hidden just far enough away to give Haley and me privacy if needed, but still within earshot.

This is probably the stupidest fucking idea that I’ve ever had. Killing my woman’s childhood rapist and burying him underneath a property I purchased to donate to a charity under her dead sister’s name.

I’m not a romantic, and this isn’t a normal world. But this is bloody well the most romantic thing a man like me can do for a woman that I care about. I’m building a fucking hospital for my future wife, if she’ll have me.

If she will have me.She could still hate me after this.

″Jesus, is this where I die?” Haley asks, stumbling out of the car. Saoirse helps her over to me, holding onto her elbow to help with balance.

Her hazel eyes meet mine and she narrows them. “Why the fuck did you put me on a plane for six hours, Callum? I’m starving and I’ve broken the seal, so I have to pee already.”

I glance around our surroundings, gesturing to the dirt everywhere. “Go ahead and piss, then.”

″I should piss on you.” It’s meant to be an attack, her posture hostile as she scowls, but then she starts giggling.

I glance at my sister, nostrils flaring. “I thought I told you no alcohol.”
