He pressed hot, open-mouthed kisses along my jaw before lifting his head and brushing my tangled hair away from my face.

“I didn’t mean for that to be so—” He stopped abruptly and gave his head a little shake, as if to clear it.

“Rushed, crazy?” I offered hopefully.

He chuckled, slowly withdrawing and easing me to the floor. I instantly missed being joined with him like that. I was almost shocked at my state. He had just given me an explosive orgasm. I was supposed to be at lunch, and instead, I was getting fucked against the door.

He helped me tidy my clothes and then stepped into the bathroom to dispose of the condom, buttoning himself back up as he walked out. “Shall we get takeout on the way back?” he asked.

I was feeling bashful, but I lifted my eyes to him. I didn’t want to go back to work. I wanted to play hooky and spend the afternoon with him. See, that girl I’d been in high school, a little bit of her was still inside me, ready to throw caution to the wind and be foolish.

“Sasha?” he prompted.

“Show me your place before we go.”

Noah took my hand and led me through. Downstairs was a living room to the front with a beautiful granite fireplace. There was a small study and a kitchen and dining area to the back. He led me up the stairs, where I was surprised to discover three bedrooms off the landing.

“What are you doing with all this space?” I asked when we were on our way out.

He shrugged as he held the door open for me. “I know it’s more than I need. Dallas and Audrey live on the other side of the duplex. They got it for a really good deal, so it works for me. It’s nice being close to them, and they can use me for babysitting.”

A laugh bubbled up. “You babysit?”

He looked genuinely affronted. “Of course.” After we got in the car, he cast me a quick glance. “Maybe I don’t have my own kids yet, but I can deal with babysitting.”

I didn’t know why, but this little detail was endearing. I was already in, well over my head and falling hard and fast, so fast I feared a crash landing. But to hear that he did backup babysitting for his nephew was almost too much. Even worse, it gave me ideas. Ideas I shouldn’t have.

When he pulled up in front of my office, he reached into the back seat, handing me the takeout we had picked up. “I promise, the sandwiches are delicious,” he assured me.

“I’m sure they are.” Although I’d lived in Boston for years, I didn’t have the time or the extra spending money to be checking out the endless array of restaurant options. Noah had stopped by a sandwich place only a few minutes away from where I worked, and I’d never been there.

“When can I see you again?” he asked.

Much as I wanted to see him tonight, tomorrow, the following night, and so on, I was almost afraid. I felt like I needed to slow down if only to keep myself sane.

“How about Friday?”

“Today’s Monday,” he pointed out.

“I know,” I said slowly.

He leaned across the seat, palming my cheek and turning my face toward his. Before I could even take a breath, we were in the middle of another mind-bending, breath-stealing kiss. When he drew back, he asked, “Do you still want to wait until Friday?”

My brain cells were scrambled. I bit my lip and shook my head. “Obviously not, but I was trying to be responsible.”

“How about Wednesday? We’ll split the difference.”

I stared into his eyes with my heartbeat echoing. I couldn’t help the smile that stretched across my face as I nodded.

NOAH

“What name?” I asked, glancing over at Cole.

“Jonathon Smith,” Cole repeated.

The name was clanging a distant bell in my thoughts, but I couldn’t quite place it. I recognized it. Somehow, I knew it was linked to Sasha.
