Keegan headed for the door, leaving me in bed. “I’ll find my own way home.” She stopped at the door and gave me a thumbs-up before turning it down. “Three out of five. Don’t hold back next time.”

I sat there stunned. I could count on one hand the people I was willing to help for nothing in return. And for a moment there, I’d nearly added Keegan to that list. I shook my head, knowing that wouldn’t happen. She wasn’t my enemy, but she wasn’t someone of value to me either.

A pieceof paper flew over my desk. It came from Mac. I thought about burning it the moment it crashed into the back of my hand. That would only get me kicked out, and although Samson, Rem, and Hawke were tutoring me now, I still needed to be present in class. I couldn’t have them treating me like I was stupid all the time. Especially Hawke. I didn’t know why but him sighing and looking at me like I was some lost puppy ticked me off the most.

As if summoned by the devil, Hawke brushed my hair to the side. His warm fingertips skirted across my flesh, sending tiny sparks dancing against my neck. I sat up straighter instantly.Shit, how in the hell does he affect me this way?

“I think he’s trying to get your attention. Should I cut off his fingers and sew his mouth shut? I’d offer to kill him, but Lux says no.” Hawke whispered words that should have been creepy, yet my body responded to his mouth’s proximity to my ear.

A shudder wrecked my lean frame, and I clenched my thighs closed. “No…” My brain was taking too long to process what Hawke had said. I shook my head, but it didn’t matter, with Hawke still breathing against the nape of my neck, making goosebumps rise with every breath.

“You smell good,” Hawke said. His lips touched my skin, and a sultry moan tumbled free. I yanked forward and was vaguely aware of the entire class turning to stare our way.

“Ms. Qu—”

My head jerked up. I glared at the teacher. No matter how out of it I was, that last name wasn’t mine. He cleared his throat.

“Keegan, please refrain from interrupting the class.”

Of course, he said nothing to Hawke as he turned back to the board to review some equations. I would need one of them to explain to me later. I fixed my glare at Hawke. He smiled at me like an innocent puppy.

Hawke was far from anything resembling innocence, not with how he acted and the way he talked about killing. I could almost picture him covered in blood with that gleeful smile plastered on his face and a gun… no, a knife in his hand. Hawke seemed more like the type to enjoy the feeling of killing someone.

What in the hell am I even contemplating?I mentally shouted at myself. One last glance at Hawke, and he winked at me. Yeah, he was a crazy bloodthirsty asshole who was also a snuggle bug. There was something wrong with that description, but it fit Hawke perfectly. I gave up and turned back around. Snatching up the piece of paper, I stared at it.

A heavy sigh left me. No, I wasn’t going to ignore him forever, and yeah, I knew he was sorry based on the thousands of texts and voicemails. Even my mother never gave me this much effort, and I had to admit not hanging out with Mac was sucky. I even found myself missing Nelly’s annoying ass. I folded the paper and ripped it up just as the bell rang. I stood up and knocked shoulders with Mac.

“Don’t do that shit again without telling me. I can handle my own shit.”

Mac nodded. “Fair.”

“Corpse doesn’t like help,” Hawke said as he draped his arm around my shoulder.

The weight felt comfortable. I was getting too close to Hawke, or more like Hawke had glued himself to me, and I was getting used to it.

“Don’t make it sound like I have issues.” I groaned. “Coming from you, it just feels wrong.” I jabbed him in the side, and he moaned.

“Again.”

I was tempted, but I held back. “You need therapy.”

“I’d let you be my shrink, Corpse.” His pink lips ghosted over my ear as he pulled me closer. “When’s our first session?”

I shoved Hawke back. My heart was racing, and there was a slight tremor in my hands. “You need a professional.”

Hawke laughed. “That’s the trade I want.”

I gawked at him. “You can’t be serious. I’m not qualified and have no idea where to start with you.”

Hawke shrugged and placed his arm back around my shoulder, bringing our bodies close again. He was acting as if he hadn’t just asked the impossible out of me.

“Fuck.” My shoulders dropped, and I mentally noted to check out how to be a shrink for dummies. There had to be something.

“We could do that too. I heard sex therapy is an option.”

I cleared my throat, looking at anyone but Hawke. Meeting Mac’s eyes were no better than the hundreds of other eyes on us. Some people stared at me in confusion, and others with pure hatred. I was making enemies left and right, and all I had to do was breathe.

Clearing my throat again, I went for my water bottle. However, it was gone, and I remembered I’d forgotten it this morning.Great.
