“He will find me and you won’t be making it out of here, so you might just want to let me go.”

“So you can run back and be with him? Not happening. You were supposed to be mine.”

“Yours? I was never yours. It was only a pact between our families. I wasn’t going to be with someone I don't love,” I tell him and the front door opens, my father entering through it. What the fuck?

“Hello, daughter,” he says smugly and I cringe from the look in his eyes. This isn’t the father I know.

“What’s going on?”

“Well, your vampire has been sniffing around where he shouldn’t be.”

“What do you mean?”

“Your mother's death. It wasn’t a vampire.”

“Who was it?” I ask, already knowing the answer. I just need him to say it.

“Me. She was putting her nose in my side business and I had to get rid of her.”

“I fucking hate you!” I scream and tears flow down my face. I can’t believe he has lied to me all these years. Brant was right this whole time and I’ve been killing innocent vampires. I can’t change what I’ve done but I can be better going forward. I have a man who loves me, and a child, hopefully. I hope Brant kills them both slowly so they can feel what I have felt since my mother’s death.

Brant

I wake up to the sound of people talking and see that it's Valentine, Ryan, and Gerald. I try to sit up, but when I do my head spins and I get dizzy.

“About time you woke up,” Ryan says and I roll my eyes. Let's see this dude get knocked out by drugs. That shit was potent enough to kill me.

“Where is she?” I ask and Valentine hands me a glass of water. My throat is parched and my voice is gritty.

“We have a couple of places to look. Both under a different name so Michael wasn’t found.”

“Who?”

“Her father.”

“I knew he was dirty. Just didn’t know how much.”

“We believe she was taken because we were getting too close.”

“We need to find her. She hasn’t been feeling well.”

“Pregnant?”

“I don’t know. Whatever it is it's making her weak,” I say and run my hand through my hair. I close my eyes and think back to the last time I saw her. Her beautiful smile, her screaming out my name when I’ve made her orgasm, and her giggles. I need her back so I can hold her in my arms, knowing she's safe. I don’t know if I will make it without her. She’s saved me in so many ways and she doesn’t even know it.

One of the other men comes running into the house, out of breath like he’s been running. The other two quickly grab me up in an attempt to move me and I head-butt one of them and he loses his grip on my arm. Before he can regain his composure, I have the other guy on the ground on his back. I wobble a little and fall to the floor. My father and Michael come running in, both staring at their men lying on the floor.

“What is going on!” my father roars and grabs my arm roughly, pulling me up.

“We have company coming.”

“How many?”

“Five, I believe.”

“Get them up and get ready,” my father orders and takes me down the hallway and into a room. He throws me in, then shuts and locks the door. My man is here and they will get what is coming to them. Gunshots ring out and I look around the room for anything to get the door open, but with no luck. I sit down on the bed and try to catch my breath. I have never been this weak, and it's scaring the hell out of me. My mother got sick like this before but ended up getting better a couple months later. My father wouldn’t tell me why, always told me to stay away so I wouldn’t see her that way. My breathing is choppy and I’m getting dizzy. Right before I pass out from lack of oxygen, I see the door crashing to the floor and Brant running into the room.
