Page 70 of Falling for Rome

I knew how she hated the public dates. The scrutiny. The comparisons. The photos. The questions. And still she offered to provide a distraction for my brother.

Instead of answering, I crossed the room to her, cupped the side of her face, and gave her the sweetest, gentlest kiss I’d ever had in my life. I tried to tell her without words how much the gesture—how muchshe—meant to me. It was everything and way too much for a bastard like me.

After a gasp, she kissed me back. Matching my hunger and intensity. It was enough to make me question our need to leave so soon. I wanted to take her here and now. Hard and quick, followed by some rest and then slow and gentle, taking my time and enjoying every little gasp and quake of her body. The woman deserved to be worshipped. I just wished I had the time to show her.

But then I wouldn’t get in to work. I’d be late, and that wasn’t me. Work had always and would always be a priority. And I’d already ran through all my good will changing some of the shoots stateside so I could be with King.

I pulled away with a groan. “You’re making it really hard to be a responsible adult.”

“I can see that.” Sophia smiled as she tipped her head at my pants.

I laughed. “That too. But seriously, thanks for your sweet offer about a public date. I know it was hard for you, but honestly, I don’t think it’d help. And besides, someone on set already sold pictures of us to the tabloids.”

“What? When? How? I stay in the trailer. How could they get a picture of us?”

Was that the problem? Was she hiding in the trailer to get away from potential paparazzi pictures? I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and scrolled toThe Babbler’swebsite. “They got pictures of us on the first day. After I ate you out and stole your panties. You still looked all hot and bothered when we left the lot hours later.” I couldn’t help but smirk at the way she bit her lip and flushed, like she was remembering that moment too. “And it looks like they got a few of us on different days coming and going from the trailer and the lot.”

“Oh.” Sophia scrolled through the pictures then went back to that first one I’d described. She lingered over it for a moment before sighing and handing my phone back to me. “I guess there’s no point doing a public date if they already have photos of us.”

“No, we’re not doing a public date because I know how much it bothers you. I appreciate you wanting to do it for King and Zoe, but I’m not putting you through that again. I don’t want you to wonder why you’re here with me. This—” I waved a hand between us. “What we have is real. And it has nothing to do with photo ops and paparazzi assholes. They don’t get to exploit and monetize us.”

“Whoa.” Sophia blinked up at me, her face slack with surprise. “I don’t know what to say.”

“There’s nothing you have to say. Just know when I find out who’s been selling us out to the paps, they’re going to be feeling a world of hurt—both from me and my lawyers.”

“I gotta say I love that you said ‘sellingusout.’ Feels very official couple-y.” She laughed then buried her face in her hands. “I can’t believe I just said that out loud to you.”

“Why?” I laughed as I pulled her close to me and wrapped my arms around her. “It’s true. Or at least I thought we were ‘very official couple-y.’ You’ve slept in my bed the past week, haven’t you? Hell, you’re living in my house, sleeping in my bed, and going to work with me. How much more couple-y does it get than that?”

Sophia’s head burrowed into my chest like she was embarrassed. Her voice was muffled when she finally spoke. “This is all true.”

“Well, speaking of couple-y things, how about you come to the set and watch me do my job? I’ve never had anyone except for Jeff or my agent with me on set. I’d love it if you would be there at least part of the day.”

“Really?” Sophia pulled back and looked up at me like she didn’t believe what I was saying. “I kinda thought I’d be in the way.”

“You wouldn’t be in the way. You can sit in my chair or stand over where Jeff hangs out with the grips and on-set make-up artists. Whatever makes you the most comfortable.”

Sophia nibbled on her bottom lip like she was weighing the pros and cons in her mind. After a pause she nodded. “I think I can do that.”

“Awesome.” I gave her a peck. “Thank you.”

She rolled her eyes. “Like I’m the one doing you a favor.”

“You kinda are. It’ll feel like I have someone on my side who’s not related to me or on my payroll. I don’t know that I’ve ever had that before.”

Sophia reached up, wrapped her arms around my shoulders, and then tugged me down for another slow, sensuous kiss. I was walking her backward toward my bed when I heard a knock.

We jerked apart, and I turned to find Jeff standing in the doorway looking down at the floor and rubbing the back of his neck. “Uh, I don’t want to bethat guy, but we kinda need to leave for the set now.”

Sophia laughed as she pulled away from me. “No problem, Jeff. Just let me grab a granola bar.”

I muffled a groan as I watched Sophia step away from me and walk out of the room. I knew we had to get to work, but that didn’t mean I liked it. Still, I didn’t mind watching her go. The little sundress she wore curved around her hips and bottom and swayed with every step she took.

And none of this was helping me with my hard-on problem.

I swung away from the door and fisted my hands.Think unsexy thoughts. Think unsexy thoughts.

“Uh, sorry about that, Rome. But we do have to get on the road ASAP.”
