The bartender slides over the drink, and I knock it back quickly. I’m going to need it.

“All right,” I say to the woman. “Who are you, and what do you want?”

Her painted lips round out before she sags and glances behind her. She lets a few minutes glide by.

“You’re a smart cookie, aren’t you?” she says, and for some reason, her voice pulls out with a low octave, dark and demon like.

I try to sit up a notch, but my body falls back and no matter how hard I try I can’t seem to control it.

A pair of arms catch me from behind, and I look up to see the two thugs that were playing cards.

“My wife,” I try to say, but it comes out lower than a whisper. “Call.”

“We’re not calling anybody,” the bald one with a mustache grunts.

The scenery blurs and shifts.

I’m led somewhere.

A dark room.

Did we drive?

Everything feels like a dream.

Can’t move my limbs. Can hardly keep my eyes open.

The next thing I know, I’m on a bed, my shirt torn open, belt loosened.

Regina is on top of me. One of the men in the room sings say cheese and I look his way as a flash goes off.

Her dress is quickly removed.

Pictures are taken.

The barrel of a gun makes an appearance, and the woman on top of me gasps.

“Why are you pointing that thing at me?” she shrieks. “You owe me money for what I did to this poor man. You don’t get to change the rules.”

A loud clap fires through the room, and Regina falls backward

Did they shoot her?

I try to turn my head to see for myself, but I can’t seem to do it.

“What did you do that for?” one of them shouts.

“We’re through with her,” the one with the gun says as he points his weapon my way.

And the world goes dark around me.

Cormack’s Party in Paradise drones on around us. The music grows louder, the laughter from the crowd grows boisterous, and Cormack seems to be pushing her blooming body to the absolute limit.

Charlie, Naomi, and even Greer have tried to tell her to take a seat or to go upstairs and take a nap, but Cormack isn’t having any of it.

And since the madness is still swirling around us at dizzying speeds, Charlie and her girl gang of villainous besties decide it’s time to segue into party games.
