Aaron studied his mate for a moment. He took in the tousled dark hair and faint flush still evident on his cheeks. Clear green eyes watched him back, waiting. He stroked his thumb along Marshall’s full bottom lip before pecking him. Marshall chased his mouth as he pulled away, pouting when Aaron pulled away further.

“You’re a good person,” he reiterated. “I trust my own instincts and those of my wolf. They’ve never put us wrong before, and I doubt they would when it came to my mate.”

Marshall didn’t look convinced. Aaron sighed as he brushed a lock of hair from his forehead.

“You’ll see. Tomorrow we’ll announce that we’re mated, and then we’ll figure out the logistics of our lives.”

“Are we going to tell them we’re soul bound or just mated?”

“I have no problem telling them about the bond. I’m proud to be mated and bound to you.”

“But?”

Aaron grinned ruefully. “But we’ll run it past Alice first, just to be sure.”

“Do you see there being problems?”

“No, but with Alice, you never know.”

“Well, we’d better make sure the bond is well and truly cemented in place then, hadn’t we?” Marshall said with a grin as he rolled them over, so he was now looking down at Aaron.

“I like how you think, Alpha-Mate,” Aaron replied as Marshall captured his mouth.

Chapter 19

Aaronwokeupalone, and he and his wolf were not happy about it. He took a moment to reflect on the last forty-eight hours. He was mated, something he’d never really put a lot of thought into. He’d known he would probably find his mate one day, but he’d not actively gone looking, having been too busy taking over from his father as Alpha.

He stretched, taking pleasure in the gentle ache in his muscles rather than the mind-numbing throb that had become normal over the last year. He felt stronger and healthier than he could remember, and he sent a quiet thanks to the fates for sending Sam to that coffee shop right when Marshall and Saint had been there. Who knew how much longer it would have been until he was bedridden and a shadow of his former self?

A feeling of satisfaction and peace washed through him. He was learning to recognize the feelings that came through the bond with Marshall. Last night had proven interesting, as the continuous loop of their own desires echoed through the soul bond, adding an extra layer to their lovemaking.

Wondering what his mate was doing to feel so relaxed had him rolling out of bed. He quickly used the bathroom and pulled on a pair of gym shorts before going in search of Marshall.

The patio doors in the living area of his suite were open, and he headed towards them. He stopped short when he found Marshall standing on the small patch of grass facing the sun. His first thought was that he was doing yoga, but as he watched Marshall’s slow, measured moves, he realized it was a form of martial art.

Dark workout pants rested low on Marshall’s slim hips and the early morning light lit his back muscles as they flexed and stretched, and Aaron itched to run his hands over them.

“Enjoying the view?” Marshall asked over his shoulder as he twisted at the waist while bringing his left hand up in an arc over his head.

“Mmm hmm.”

He was rewarded with a knowing grin, but there was no further conversation as Marshall finished his routine. Once he had, he wiped himself down with a small towel as he walked toward Aaron. Stopping in front of him, he leaned in for a kiss.

“Good morning,” Aaron greeted him huskily as he buried his nose into Marshall’s neck, inhaling the intoxicating scent of spicy toffee and fresh male sweat.

“Morning,” Marshall returned, tilting his head to give Aaron more access.

“You smell so good,” he whispered.

“I’m sure I’d smell better after a shower,” Marshall said, nudging him away with a laugh.

“Nope. You smell spicy and sexy, and my wolf and I want to drown in it.”

“How about you scrub my back in the shower instead?”

Heat and desire shot through him. With a grin, he grabbed Marshall’s hand and strode back into his suite. They were halfway across the room when there was a knock at the door. Aaron growled. Who the hell was that at this time of the day?

He debated ignoring it and took another step towards his bedroom when the knock came again.
