Severu

Four days ago, I put it all on the line. My truth. My heart. My future. I didn’t hang around after I finished speaking. Lira needs time to think through everything I said and make a decision that works for her.

It’s been four of the longest, hardest days of my entire life. Each day, I wait outside her building and drive behind her as she makes her way to work. And then I repeat the process when she leaves work.

The first night, I sat in my car, watching the windows until the lights went off. I want to storm into her apartment and force her to choose me. I want to pick her up and drag her away to the compound and keep her locked in my room until she decides I’m the one she wants. I have it all worked out in my mind, knowing there isn’t any measure I wouldn’t use to convince her she belongs with me. They both do.

Instead of allowing my true obsession with Lira to show, I send her flowers. For three days, she has received a bouquet of irises. She smiles as she smells them while walking home, and my heart pounds in my throat.

I sit outside her office and wait for her to leave before putting my plan into action. I almost fall out of my car in my rush to get her.

“Severu?” She seems confused to see me here.

“Lira,” I say lowly before clearing my throat. “I thought I could invite you to dinner.”

She tries to hide her smile at my somewhat nervous request but nods.

“Is there anything specific you want to eat? Something you’re craving?”

“Mexican,” Lira says, finally allowing herself to smile. “There’s a wonderful place down the road from my apartment.”

I smile in return, leading her toward my SUV. After opening her door, I wait for her to get into the vehicle before leaning in to help her with the seatbelt. Then, I round the front, jump in on my side, and drive toward her place. Lira directs me to the restaurant she has in mind, and we are quickly seated.

The waitress is friendly and clearly knows Lira because she already has a drink in hand when she approaches our table.

“Virgin daiquiri for you.” She smiles brightly as she sets it down in front of Lira. “I’m sorry, I don’t know your drink order,” she says to me.

“He will have a beer,” Lira replies, giving her my favorite brand.

The waitress leaves some menus and scurries off to see to her other table and get my beer. My gaze is locked on Lira as she sips her drink through a straw before moaning. The sound shoots right to my dick, waking the fucker beneath the table.

“Good?” I ask gruffly.

“Oh, my God,” she replies. “I don’t know what it is, but I have had one of these almost every day for the last month. It’s just so good.”

A chuckle escapes me at her excitement over this alcohol-free, fruity drink. The waitress returns to take our order, and I nod toward Lira.

“I’ve never been here. Why don’t you order for us both?”

The waitress smiles widely. “That’s so nice. Most men order for the women they are with. Quite a change of pace. What will it be, Lira?”

“He will have the Carne Asada, and I would like the tacos de Pescado. And another drink.” She smiles as the waitress laughs.

The waitress leaves us again, and we stare at each other in silence. I have an irrational urge to hold her hand like some sap but control myself. I would hate for Lira to think I am trying to force her to make a decision.

“I have a doctor’s appointment on Friday,” Lira says.

“Is something wrong with the baby? Are you okay?” Fear floods my veins like I have never felt it before.

“Breathe, Sev.” She takes my hand in hers with a smile. “It’s just a checkup to make sure that everything is progressing the way it should. I wanted to ask if you would join me.”

“Yes,” I say too quickly as the panic subsides. “I would love to be there.”

“That’s good.”

“I haven’t heard from you since the other night.” I jump in with both feet, laying all my cards on the table.

“I had a lot of things to think through.” Lira seems a little nervous. “This is a big decision.”
