After hanging up Simone’s dress on the back of my door, I decide I have time to go for a short jog and shower. Amy returns while I’m blow-drying my hair.

“It was not easy getting my coworkers to cover for me,” Amy tells me as she goes through several different outfits. “Luckily, it’s not that busy a night, and it’s not like they’re going to get a rush of people after eight PM.”

From our bedroom window, I can see JD’s driver has pulled up in front and double parked. But fifteen minutes go by, and Amy still hasn’t settled on what she’s going to wear. I go down and inform the driver. It’s another chilly night, so I decide to go back up and grab my thick sweater.

“You’re not seriously wearing that thing?” Amy asks. “After I threw up on it? I would have burned the thing.”

“It keeps me warm,” I reply. “And it seems clean and fresh.”

After another fifteen minutes, Amy decides on platform heels and a slinky red cocktail dress.

“Isn’t this fun?” she asks when we’re finally seated in the car and on our way. “So much better than going to frat parties. Now that I’ve gotten to know JD, college boys seem like, well, boys.”

I haven’t been to a frat party in a while, but The Lotus is several steps up, to say the least.

“Can you believe we’ve been invited to hang out with JD and Darren three times this week?” Amy continues while checking her makeup in her compact.

“It’s crazy. I never go out this much,” I say.

“Yeah, you’re not the partying type. So it must be you’ve got a thing for Darren.”

I balk. “I only went to the club and that reception—which I probably wouldn’t have gone to if I had known it was a fundraiser for Drumm—to keep you company.”

“Okay, but what about tonight? I’m comfortable enough going alone now, especially since I get my own private driver. How awesome is that?”

Once we arrive at The Lotus, JD finds Amy immediately. He slides his arm around her waist. Amy looks like she’s in seventh heaven.

“Damn, you look good, girl,” he says before turning to me. “Darren’ll be down soon. He’s on a call with his mother.”

“I’ll be at the bar,” I say.

JD turns back to Amy. “Wanna dance?”

Amy practically skips to the dance floor with JD. I sit down at the bar.

“Hey, you,” greets the bartender from my first night here.

“Hi,” I say, happy to see a friendly face. “I don’t think I ever caught your name. Mine’s Bridget.”

“Felipe.”

We shake hands. He looks at my sweater. “That the same one—?”

“Yeah. Kimberly’s not here, is she? If so, you might want to give her a warning. I don’t want to be the reason she goes blind. Not completely, anyway.”

I grin sheepishly, not having intended those last words to come out.

But Felipe leans in closer. “I know, right? Kimberly is a piece of work. I don’t know what Darren saw in her. It’s not like he can’t get a girl with real boobs that size.”

“So he’s a tit man?” I ask, thinking about my own breasts, which just manage to fill a B-cup.

Felipe shrugs. “Actually, I’ve seen him with all kinds of women.”

“Well, boobs aren’t Kimberly’s only assets. She looks like she could be a model.”

“Oh, she is one. But even if I were a straight guy, which thankfully I’m not, I still wouldn’t go for her. What can I get you? Glass of Coke? Shirley temple?”

“Shirley temple sounds good. I’m impressed you know my drinks.”
