“You were kind of unforgettable. Even without the Coke-in-the-face incidence.”

I feel my cheeks warm. “Oh, that little incident. Trust me, I don’t do that all the time.”

Felipe laughs as he prepares my drink. “I like your spunk. Darren deserved it.”

“I’m just glad we worked it out.”

I happen to glance down the end of the bar, where a man and a woman are sitting. The man stares at Felipe before turning his attention back to the woman.

“You know much about JD?” I ask as Felipe hands me my drink.

Felipe steals a glance at the man when he’s not looking. “What’s that?”

“You know JD well?”

“I guess. Enough to know he likes ’em young and petite, like your friend.”

“He seems like he could be a player.”

Felipe drops his gaze and wipes the counter. “What makes you say that?”

“I don’t know. Just a vibe.”

“Or women’s intuition?”

“Maybe. I just don’t want to see my friend hurt.”

I see the man at the end of the bar look at Felipe again. Leaning in toward Felipe, I whisper, “I think that guy at the end is checking you out.”

It’s dark, but it looks like Felipe is blushing. “Really? He’s super-hot, but I probably just remind him of someone.”

The woman laughs at something the man has said.

“And he looks like he’s on a date with that woman,” Felipe adds.

“My gay-dar is weak, but there’s something about the way that he looks at you that makes me think he might be interested,” I insist.

The man leaves the bar and heads to the restroom. The woman goes through something in her purse, then decides to head in the same direction.

“Want me to see if I can find out if they’re on a date?” I ask.

“No! Well…”

“Be back.”

Hopping off the barstool, I follow the woman into the ladies’ room. Looking around, I see a woman take an exit on the other side of the bathroom from where I came in. Maybe it leads to an employee area. Spotting the woman from the bar standing in front of a mirror reapplying her lipstick, I go over and pretend to wash my hands at the sink next to her.

“You mind my asking if the guy you’re with is single?” I blurt. Worst case, she’s on a date with him and hates me.

She looks me up and down. “I’m afraid he’s not your type, sweetie.”

“I’m asking for a friend.”

“Sure you are. I wouldn’t bother if I were you. Bryan doesn’t date women.”

“So you’re not on a date with him?” I ask politely.

“No, I’m not.”
