“Why would you eat alone when you could have a meal with me?”

The words spilled from my mouth before I could stop them, a medley of syllables that crashed to the table and splattered all over the place. No one else had heard me, of course, but it was the least attractive thing I had said all evening. And I had said it to a guy who was far more interesting than any man I had ever met.

He smirked. “You just want to get me alone.”

“Is it working?”

He stood up and plucked a few bills from his wallet to place on the table. “Sure is, cherry.”

Well, that was easy, I thought as I led Adam into the kitchen.

We picked up a few glances along the way, but none that made me feel anything except pure victory. The cooks in the kitchen welcomed my return and gathered around as I began preparing something for Adam and me. Rib-eye steak, classic scallops, and a garden salad with plenty of steamed vegetables seemed to do it for him. His eyes imbibed every move I made, drifting to my hips as I wandered seamlessly about the kitchen.

Once the show was over and we had two plates of delicious food, we wandered into my office. I set the plates on the nearest table and shut the door, sliding the bolt lock into place.

“Thought it was charmed,” he pointed out without breaking his staring match with his food. God, he was practically drooling over that steak. “What’s the lock for?”

“So we’re not seen.”

My gut flipped when he popped his mouth shut and shot me a lustful smirk. That was the kind of smile that could make any woman melt into the ground. But for me? It just sparked a primal need to shove everything off my desk and mount him like my favorite pony ride at the carnival.

Wow, I thought while taking a seat across from him.Way to be desperate.

His eyelids fluttered when I leaned over to check his steak. When he gently took my wrist, the tips of his fingers zapped me, inspiring a mewl that I wouldn’t have been able to control if I tried. What was the point of resisting my urges? All wolves got this way at some point in their lives. When we weren’t mated, we were constantly seeking a way to connect.

It was simple. Wolf 101. That was the first thing I was taught after exiting foster care.

“You smell amazing,” he whispered. A gentle tug on my wrist had me rounding the table and cupping his cheek. “Like nectar, spring… lilacs...”

His hands circled my waist and rested on my lower back, inspiring heat to pool in my center. Few men could have elicited such a response from me. While I tried to count them in my head, I tangled my fingers in his hair, unable to break eye contact. The earthy green of his irises entranced me as my nostrils flared.

“And you,” I whispered weakly. “You smell like…” I closed my eyes to focus on his scent. “Summer.”

His hand climbed my spine, bowing me toward him. “I’ll be every season you ever loved. You won’t ever get enough.”

“I… don’t think so…”

My whimpering lips betrayed my weakened state. And it was all his fault.

Not that I was complaining.

He grinned confidently with his crooked smile that dazzled me as much as his eyes dud. “I highly doubt that, sweet cherry.”

Lips like his were far from unfamiliar but consumed me more than any man had ever tried. Where curious desire once sat, ravenous hunger appeared, a hummingbird’s wings taking the place of my heart. His hands wandered to my shoulders and then back toward my hips, dipping beneath the waistband of my jeans with a teasing touch.

As he drifted around the edge of my jeans toward my stomach, I arched into him and whispered, “You’re being mean.”

His lips burned my flesh as he kissed under my navel. “I can be meaner.”

“Why would you do that, Adam?” I caught his shoulders with a gasp. “What about…?”

He peered up at me with round eyes while massaging my hips. “I’ll stop if you want me to stop.”

“Don’t stop.”

“But you said—”
