I groaned with irritation.

My desire for her persisted. Even if there was the possibility of her bolting, this moment felt too good, toowonderfulto let my anxiety get the best of me. To hell with whatever fears were lurking in the shadows with my demons. Having her now in my bed was all that mattered.

“The rest of my life would look so nice with you beside me,” I whispered to her cheek. She shifted and sighed, her tiny fingers reaching up to curl into my hair. “But I don’t think that’s something you want…”

She whimpered while raising her head. “What?”

“Nothing, darling. Go back to sleep.”

“Get room service.” Her head flopped into the pillow. “It’s on me…”

One more kiss sent her back into a serene snooze. I untangled myself reluctantly from her body and went to the phone across the room. There was a perfectly good one next to the bed, but I didn’t want to disturb her slumber.

A few minutes later, breakfast was ordered and I was left to my own devices.

Not always smart for a restless guy like me.

I should call Donovan, I thought while grabbing my phone. I observed Charlotte quietly, admiration flowing from my eyes.Quick update. New plan. Next steps.

The suite’s kitchen was the perfect place to call my alpha. Fake sunflowers bloomed from delicate vases, neatly placed in strategic places around the room. Modern equipment lined the marble counters between menus, complimentary coffee, and an assortment of chocolates.

They really went all out here.

I glanced at the closed kitchen door.Or did she do that?

I shook my head and clicked on Donovan’s name on my phone. A few short rings later had him grumpily saying, “Yeah, what?”

“Sorry, boss. I know it’s early.”

He groaned. “It must be important.”

“Lottie said she got the map from Sasha last night, so we need to go over a plan.”

“I haven’t had coffee. Have you had coffee?”

I sighed. “Donnie, this is important.”

“So is coffee. And yourhealth.”

My head bowed instinctively. “Yes, alpha.”

“Alright, so I don’t hear the machine making anything. Go make coffee.”

“Yes, alpha.”

Minutes later, the coffee machine bubbled to life. I waited until enough coffee was brewed, poured myself a cup, and sat at the kitchen table overlooking the bustling city. Already, life exploded in every corner of Rochdale. What were those creatures doing down there? Getting ready for their normal lives? Avoiding death?

Gods, what a mess.

“Adam?” Donovan’s voice brimmed with concern. “You there, man?”

“Yeah, I’m here.” I slurped my coffee. “Got the fuel. Let’s go over a plan.”

He sighed. “Well, I assume you want to go get the reversal spell, right?”

“Yeah, I want to be the one to do that.”

“Take Charlotte with you along with Lucius and the security team. You’ll go today while it’s daylight.”
