And that meant he was about to start learning some hard truths.

It seems like he cares about his friend, but his father is right, I thought. I tucked the sheets around his shoulders and ruffled his hair. She’s dangerous. Even if it isn’t her specifically who’s dangerous, it’s her clan.

I frowned.

And I’m not letting anything threaten him ever again.

When I kissed his forehead, my heart quivered. Something clicked inside me, a forgotten key unlocking a warm chamber in my chest. The door swung wide open and revealed a sunny meadow that I had no idea existed.

Adam was right. He was every season I ever loved. And even more than that.

A satisfied sigh sent me into the hallway where I left the door open a crack. I peeked at Henry, making sure his figure was still nestled on the bed before moving to the end of the hallway. Adam’s door stood open. He sat on the bed in jogging pants with a book propped on his stomach.

“So, it runs in the family,” I teased. “I saw how many books are on Henry’s shelf.”

I tentatively stepped into the room. I knew he wanted me here, but I was still nervous about walking inside.

He smiled and nodded. “Come on, sweet cherry. Let me taste you. I’ve been dying to do it all day.”

And just like that, I was hotter than the summer sun. I shut the door quietly and flew across the room, landing on his lap. The book fluttered to the ground, soon forgotten. I smashed my lips against his while mewling eagerly, running my fingers over his bare chest.

His hands roamed my back and paused on my bottom for a hard squeeze. My body rolled with his, hips rocking to a rhythm we were setting as we tangled our limbs together. Every kiss opened my mouth further, inviting his tongue to explore beyond my lips. His hungry moans turned into ravenous growls that sent me shivering back on the bed.

As soon as he was between my legs, exhaustion smacked me in the face. “Adam?”

“Yes, cherry?” He nudged my chin and exposed my throat, exhaling over the sensitive flesh of my neck. “You need something, baby?”

“Oh…” I licked my lips, fighting my inner wolf. “I’m tired.”

He perked up, planting his hands on either side of my face. He grinned lazily at me, eyelids weighing as heavy as mine. “Me, too.”

“Can we just cuddle?”

“We can always just cuddle.”

I grinned bashfully as he adjusted his position and invited me into his arms. His erection poked my thigh and made me bite my lip, causing him to chuckle.

“Sorry,” he whispered. “That’s probably gonna take a minute.”

“It’s fine. I just…” I traced his temple. “I want to look at you.”

He grinned. “You missed me that much?”

“Adam, I miss you every second that I’m not around you.”

“That’s so weird.”

I frowned. “What?”

“I mean, I feel the same way.”

“You’re such ajerk.” I snatched a pillow from behind me and whacked him with it. “You really had me in the first half.”

He cackled while trying to avoid the pillow. He smacked it a few times to keep it from his face, but none of his defenses worked for long. I was the queen of strategy. He wasn’t going to win this battle with me.

“You should have seen your face,” he joked. “That was priceless.”

“You wanted to hurt my feelings?”
