My eyes refused to stay open. As much as I tried to stay conscious, the afterglow of our coupling had done me in.Properly fuckedwould be the phrase Nina would likely use. And whether it applied or not was irrelevant.

I was just happy.

The drain gurgled as the water receded. I lifted my head just as Matéo lifted me out of the tub. He grabbed two towels and carried me into the room where he set me on the bed and dried me off.

“You cleared my mind, fleur,” he said with a satisfied grin. “And you got me thinking.”

“About?” I was still gasping for air even though my orgasm had faded fifteen minutes ago. “What?”

He took his time patting my body dry, pausing between my legs to admire my slit. I bit my lower lip and flushed. When he moved on, he replied, “I want to meet with Donovan and go over the information. I need to understand the medallion.”

“I’m sure we can arrange that today.”

“We can always do it tomorrow.”

I frowned. “Why would you want to delay it? It’s not like—” Realization smacked me in the face when his thumb trailed over my slit. I whined. “Matéo!”

“I have a million reasons for the delay.”

“The longer we wait, the more mess we have to clean up.”

He winked. “In more than one way, absolutely.”

“Matty!”

Mischief glowed on his face. And I couldn’t deny how attractive it made him look. Happiness made him ten times more handsome, thousand times more agreeable. I wanted to see him happy.

And I would do just about anything to make that happen.

Chapter 11 - Matéo

Not even a week after aiding the Beaufort alpha to defend his land, I was heading back there with an extra passenger, adjusting vents and the radio volume about a dozen times each round. My fingers flew restlessly over the other buttons available—the solar lamps, the silver spike slinger, the silver water thrower.

I cleared my throat. “Thank your sister for me when you get the chance. She didn’t have to drop us off at my cabin.”

Rose smiled. “Charlotte doesn’t mind. She seems to like you. Which is…” She faded for a moment, playing with her necklace. “Well, she never really likesanyone, so consider yourself lucky.”

“Suppose her mate is lucky, too.”

I popped the vents, feeling hot all of a sudden.

Why am I so nervous?I thought with irritation.I’m never nervous. This is ridiculous. Rose is just a woman. She’s nothing more than a—

“Heavens,” Rose sighed. “You’re ready for the end of the world in here.” She pointed to the dash full of levers and buttons.

“I’m ready for anything.”

She chuckled. “This truck is impressive. I’m sure Donovan would want modifications to his car once he sees this.”

“I can probably do that.”

“Would you?”

I glanced at her, breaking contact with the road for a split second to catch those hazel-yellow eyes. I smiled warmly. “Oui.”

“Sasha would appreciate that. I’m sure Charlotte would, too.”

“You inn women love your pack wolves, don’t you?”
