She stammered over her words, scrambling over a million explanations that died on her tongue. Once again, I had her flustered.

And it pleased me to see it.

“I’m kidding, Rose,” I said gently. She hunched into her seat while wearing a bashful expression. “I’m not a pack wolf.”

She perked up. “Are you saying I’m interested in you?”

“Not to assume anything, but this morning was…”

“What?”

My eyelids batted at the memory of her on top of me. “Christ.”

“You think I’m Christ?”

“No, I didn’t saythat.”

She giggled. “You just said—”

“Iknowwhat I said, Rose. Don’t twist my words.”

“I’m kidding, Matéo.”

She flashed an innocent grin, enhancing the playful glimmer in her eyes.

I shook my head as I slowed the truck near the entrance of the Beaufort ranch. “You’re about to get into trouble, fleur.”

“And what are you going to do about it?”

“I’ll have to think about that.”

Her smile melted. “No, wait—”

I grinned mischievously. “If you’re patient, I’ll reward you.”

“But sir—”

“Be a good girl, will you?”

Her responding mewl told me everything I needed to know—that she was under my command whether she liked it or not.

And lately, I got the impression that she liked ita lot.

Once we rolled up in front of the alpha’s home, we were greeted by an entourage of people, the alpha included. Donovan appeared much more rested than when I last saw him. A man with a burnt tan and freckles stepped up, mahogany hair tousled but purposefully so.

He shook my hand after Donovan. “Lucius, if you don’t remember.”

I nodded gratefully. “Good to see you again, Lucius.”

“Adam,” said a shorter man with reddish-brown hair and green eyes. “I’m Donovan’s beta and advisor.”

“Yes, I remember your…” I sifted through my words carefully. “Commitment to understanding my power.”

He shrugged, pride brimming around his aura. “Call me curious.”

“I’m sure we have much to discuss, Adam. I’m as interested in discovering my power as you are.”

“I’m glad we’re on the same page.”
