I’m stillin my work coveralls, and I stick out like a sore thumb, but that doesn’t stop me from walking into the resort and looking for Romy. Finding her would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

“Silas?” a voice asks behind me, making me turn around.

It’s Romy. She looks as surprised to see me as I do her.

“Hey,” I say, looking around.

After my run-in with that prick on Main Street, I wouldn’t be surprised if he saw me here and planned to send his security goons to tackle me to the ground.

“What are you doing here?”

“I need to talk to you about Cam,” I blurt out. There’s no need to sugarcoat the situation and pretend it’s something that it’s not.

Romy’s neutral expression morphs to anger, but she doesn’t immediately tell me to fuck off, so I quickly start explaining.

“I will be the first person to tell you he can sometimes be an idiot. Like the way he lied about not having the part for your bike. And I’m not going to say that he means well, even though he does,” I mumble that last bit under my breath. “But he cares so much about Eloise and Brayden and Aspen. They are a special bunch.”

The anger on her face starts to recede, and I may just pull this off.

“I don’t know you or your story,” I continue. “But that family is one that opens their hearts to the people around them who need it. Cam has always been there for me through all my ups and downs. And he’ll do anything to protect his family. Even mess up a chance at something amazing if it means helping his sister save her inn.”

“Wait, what?” Romy asks.

“She didn’t want to ask you, but the Snow Falls Family Inn isn’t doing so well. As you probably noticed when you were there—you were the only guest.” I hold up my hands to the magnificent resort we are standing in. “This place holds a lot of appeals that a small inn might struggle to compete with.”

“I see.” Romy nods.

“I was hoping you would.”

“This is a lot of new information to think about,” she says.

“And that’s all I can ask of you—to consider the situation before you write off the people involved.” I chuckle to myself. “And if it helps, I’ve never seen Cam look at anyone the way he was looking at you.”

Romy bites her lip but doesn’t react. “And no one knows that you were here?”

“No one. And I hope to keep it that way. Just between us.”

Eloise

She did it! Romy wrote about the inn on her website, and I’ve been fielding calls all morning with people making reservations. I don’t know why she changed her mind, but for whatever reason, she just saved our family’s business from ruin. I wish I could thank her face to face, but I don’t know if she’ll ever really believe that I didn’t have anything to do with Cam lying to her.

“I brought donuts,” Silas says, walking into the kitchen with a box in his hands.

I’m out of my seat and jumping into his arms before he can put the box down on the island.

“She did it!” I yell, nearly tackling him to the ground.

“Whoa!” Silas says, but he isn’t able to save the box of fried dough goodness. “Who did what?”

“Romy.” I pull back and smile. “She wrote about the inn. We’ve got reservations coming in left and right.”

Something glimmers in his eyes, but it’s gone before I’m sure it was there. It’s like he knew that she would help us, even after everything with Cam.

“Did you know?” I ask.
