“Denton, we have to talk about what happened.” I try to reason with him, but he’s slipping his hands in my t-shirt, cupping my breasts, kneading them, and making me lose my train of thought. I don’t even know how many times we fucked last night, right here in this bed, on the floor, and recklessly enough, even on the balcony.

“Denton,” I try to speak again, to have him kiss my shoulder, distracting me.

“Come on, Bre, just a few more minutes,” he says, twisting a taut nipple between his thumb and forefinger. God, that feels so good. He pushes his hips forward.

A knock on my door has me groaning. “I told you so,” I whisper. “Get in the closet, you asshole.”

I slip on my sleep shorts and open the door. Justin stands outside the door, grinning. “So...Uhm… you seen my dad?”

“No,” I say, crossing my arms over my chest. “Why would you think I’d know where he is?

“I saw you two come in here last night.”

“You saw wrong,” I snap, and that has him smirking.

“Anyway, if you do see him, could you let him know I’m skipping whatever he has planned for the day to hang out with Tanya.”

“It’s cool,” Denton shouts from the closet, and I feel my cheeks heat.

“See you later, liar,” he grins and strolls off down the hallway. That boy is as cocky as his father. I slam the door and face Denton.

“Did you have to do that? God, what will Amanda and Keaton say? It is too soon, Denton. We can’t just rub whateverthisis in their faces.”

“The only opinion that matters to me is yours,” he says, tugging on his jeans and t-shirt from last night.

“And my opinion is that we have to take this one day at a time.”

He walks up to me and kisses my forehead. “Then that’s what we’ll do, but I want you, I want to love you, and date you and fuck you.”

“You’re so romantic sometimes, Denton.” I shake my head, my irritation dissipating. He wraps his arms around me. “I meant what I said. I love you, you don’t have to say it back. We don’t have to do anything you don’t want to, outside the bedroom,” he smirks. “I can’t and won’t live without you again. I know that this summer is about Savanna, and I intend to respect that, but not at the risk of losing you.”

I think about his words long after he leaves.

I pick up my phone and call Ally.

“Hey songbird, how’s the sand and sea treating you?” She answers cheerily. I fall back on the bed.

“Pretty great, if Mr. Complicated wasn’t here too.”

“Wait, what?” She sounds surprised. “And he boned you, didn’t he?”

“When you say it like that, it just sounds terrible.”

She laughs. “Have you two talked at least, about everything, the last few years?”

I sigh. “Not yet. That’s the thing with us, we’re all lust and passion, and words just don’t flow that easy between us.”

“Words are your life, make them flow,” she tells me.

“He said he loves me.” I bite my lip, remembering how my heart thudded against my chest when he said those words to me.

“Whoa, you two move fast,” she giggles.

“I can’t say it back, though. There are things in our lives we need to get closure on. I can’t let myself feel until that happens.”

“Don’t wait too long. From what you’ve told me, and you left a hell of a lot out, I know that this has been a long time coming.”

“Anyway, how's recording coming along?” I need to change the subject.
