“Us.”

She takes her sunglasses off, pushing them onto her head. She doesn’t move, but her eyes are wide. “Denton, I thought we agreed we were going to take this slow.”

“Brianna, I am tired of taking things slow. I am tired of pretending that I’m not madly in love with you and that I want to spend every waking moment with you.”

“God, I know. I just wish you’d spoken to me about it first.”

“In my defense, they were the ones who brought it up first, and I am done with the lying, especially when it comes to you.”

“And Amanda wasn’t angry?”

“No, on the contrary, she said we deserve to be happy.”

Bre kisses Ty on the head and seems to drift off into thought.

“Or are you just using me for sex?”

“Shut up,” she laughs. “I just didn’t expect things to be that easy, especially with Amanda.”

Justin and his latest conquest come running up to us. He is extra tan because of all the time he’s spent out here. I have no idea what happened with him and the brunette because he’s with a blonde now.

“So, are you two a thing now?” He asks as he digs into our picnic basket.

Bre rolls her eyes. “We are not a thing,” she tells him.

“Yeah, you two look like you’re a thing,” he chuckles, and she glares at him.

“Can you get food of your own? This is supposed to be a date,” I tell my son.

“Uhm...you do realize she has a baby on her instead of you, that kind of rules out the whole idea of a date. But...I am happy to babysit tonight for a hundred bucks.”

“Go away, Justin,” I say, shoving his arm. He laughs and sprints away with blondy.

“He’s right, though,” I say, turning to Bre. “I’m taking you out tonight on a real date. It’s long overdue.”

Denton drives me to an outdoor bar sprawled over a beach stretch with tiki bars, lounge chairs, and torches. It is absolutely stunning, and I can’t stop grinning.

“Where did you find this place?”

“Impressing women is my forte, Bre.”

“I thought I was the only one you were trying to impress.” I cock a brow.

“You are the only one I have never been able to impress.”

It’s a casual setting with people dancing in beachwear. No wonder he told me to wear mine. I wore ripped shorts over just in case. This looks like so much fun.

We find a table and two lounge chairs, looking out at the beach.

“I may be impressed,” I tell him, and he kisses me before we take a seat.

We order sushi and champagne. “We have a lot to celebrate,” he shrugs when I look at him questioningly.

I smile. I never imagined, after all these years, I’d be dating Denton. We’ve hidden for so long it feels strange to be openly together.
