Turning towards Halley, Knox cupped her face in his hands, instructing. “Let your shield down.”

Gasps of shock and disbelief sounded, and I knew that the portal was open. Looking away from Halley and Knox, I turned, immediately seeing the golden opening, Darkness filling the entrance. The inky tendrils seemed to be alive, slithering around the entrance and I knew this was the entity that had taken over Agrum Di Vinum centuries before. And I knew, that this was just the beginning of the real battle we would face.

Chapter Fifty-Two

Halley

As Knox uttered his words, I let my shield down, and immediately, a vision entered my mind. Even though I didn’t know how, I knew it was Knox’s vision. And all I saw was what had to be Agrum Di Vinum, it’s beauty otherworldly. Understanding what he wanted, I drew on my power, opening the portal to the Divine land.

The Darkness surrounding the portal ebbed and flowed, a living entity, the opposite of the one in the library. The Darkness had taken over Agrum Di Vinum, still living in the once peaceful land, and as I watched it, I knew that it would take over this realm as well.

The Divines in the room began scurrying back as they eyed the Darkness and I feared what I had just unleashed. Thankfully, before any of the Divines could run from the room, Eli pushed his power over them all once again, halting their movements until they all stood still, no longer in control of their own minds.

As the group calmed, I knew this was our last step. With Eli’s power coursing through them, they would each follow the four men through the portal, making their way to the only safe area of Agrum Di Vinum. I could only hope that Wilder would be strong enough to hold off the Darkness, keeping everyone safe.

The four men must have realized it was time as I did, all of them turning towards the portal, ready to lead their people, as they were born to do. I had no doubts that together, they would defeat the Darkness and lead the Divines the way they deserved. Together, they had the leadership, the compassion, the strength, and the grit to bring peace to Agrum Di Vinum once again.

Kalani and Maeve made their way through the crowd, ready to stand with us as well. The two of them made their way towards me and the portal, Maeve pulling me in for a hug first.

“Thank you, Halley. For everything you’ve done for us.” She murmured, before giving Kalani and I a moment.

Kalani and I didn’t say a word for a moment, but when I took her hands into mine, she gave me a watery smile and I knew she knew. We didn’t have to say the words.

“You’re my best friend and I love you.” She uttered, a sob choking her.

“You’re my family.” I told her and I hoped she knew how true those words were. She had been the first family I had in a decade and would always hold a special place in my heart. Even as she ripped a piece of it away when she stepped towards the portal.

Madden stepped forward next, his eyes shining with pride. “I knew you were something special the moment I met you, sweetheart, but I never thought you’d change the world.”

“And you’re a special man.” Taking a deep breath, I uttered the words I needed him to hear before everything changed. “One I desperately love.”

Madden’s eyes flashed at my words, before he leaned forward, smashing his lips to mine. Breaking away, both of us breathless, he spoke the words I needed in this moment.

“I’ll love you in this realm and the next, Halley Jameson.”

And then he walked away, taking another piece of my heart with him.

“No one can comprehend your strength Halley, but I’m a lucky bastard to be in your presence.” Knox murmured and I couldn’t help but lean forward and capture his mouth with my mine, needing the contact in this moment. “All of you.” He whispered against my lips and I knew he was reminding me of his promise. That he would have all of me. I only wished the promise would come true.

Eli wrapped me in his arms next. “I’m so damn proud of you, Halls. I’ll see you on the other side, yeah?”

Pushing the tears out of my voice, I responded. “See you on the other side.”

And then the next two pieces of my heart walked towards the portal, pushing each other back and forth, laughing with happiness.

One more man stood before me, the last of the four men who had turned my life upside down.

“Don’t do this.” Wilder uttered and his words had the tears streaming down my face as I accepted the position I was in. I turned my head away, refusing to let the others see what Wilder had figured out. I couldn’t handle it if they saw the truth.

“I have to.”

Striding forward, Wilder took my face in his hands, adamantly shaking his back and forth.

“No, you fucking don’t, princess. This isn’t your world; you don’t have to protect it.”

But I did. This may not be the Divines world, but it was the world I had grown up in. And I couldn’t let the Darkness seep through, taking over the world that didn’t have Divines to protect them from the destruction. I couldn’t let innocent people die for my own happiness.

Wilder must have seen the decision in my eyes, because his burned bright. “If you stay, then I’m staying with you.”
