Wow, she shut that down pretty fast. Once again, I’m proud of my girl. If only she’d spoken up sooner we’d be out of this meeting already.

As it is, I have other plans in mind.

“Carmella, while we may not be working together, may I offer you some advice?”

She looks at me with rage in her eyes. This client is obviously pissed that we’re not gonna take her in. I don’t know what she expected.

“Fine, Cameron, what’s your advice for me?”

“I would suggest that you manipulate your own political party instead of trying to pull from the opposing party. Just write off the oppositions, as that’s what most of your constituents do anyway, and they’ll really respect you for that.”

She nods at me and gives Nicole one final disgusted look before she leaves.

I’m so glad that woman is out of our lives. I’m gonna have to make sure these meetings are really up to par before we take them anymore.

Nicole looks at me as we’re alone together in the conference room and says, “Cameron, that was terrible advice. If she does that she’ll just alienate people in her party and the competition will take over.”

I look at her with an odd grin and say, “Of course it will, Nicole, and that will make it all the easier for Sebastian King later on.”

I’ve just given her a very important lesson in politics, which I know she’ll take to heart. As with everything in politics, all is not what it seems.

Adam

I’m in the limousine with Nicole, having just picked her up for our meeting with Senator Craig. She looks ravishing in a black pencil skirt, white tank, and suit jacket. It’s all I can do not to start massaging her and making things happen in the back of this limo.

“Are you ready for this?” I ask her.

She and I both know this is her first meeting with a really important client and that a lot is riding on this.

I’m really wondering how Nicole will react. We’re meeting with Senator Craig, who’s been a big asset to our firm. The guy’s running on an awesome platform of cleaning up the environment and doing several other green things, but he’s also swindling money from some questionable lobby groups.

I know all of these information, but I’m wondering if Nicole does, too. In a way, I’m using this meeting as a way to test her. I want to see if she’s done her homework.

I’m anxious to see how she handles this guy. It’ll be my first chance to see this girl in her comfortable territory. If she’s truly the political wildcat we know her to be, then that should come out in this session.

“I am so ready for this, Adam. Just wait until you see what I can do.” She’s so fucking confident, it’s hot.

We stop by a Starbucks and each of us gets a triple shot cappuccino. We’re gonna need it to get through this meeting with Senator Craig.

He’s got a nice platform and while he started on the right path with our company, he’s certainly not ending well now. He’s a cocky sonofabitch and frankly, I’d rather not have to see him today. But on the upside, I get to spend more time with Nicole, and that’s always good.

“Okay, baby, let’s go.” We’ve arrived at the senator’s place, and I take her hand out of the car.

Once inside the office, we’re led right in. We’re the force behind his campaign. He better be waiting for us.

“Senator Craig, how nice to see you,” I say hoping my voice isn’t dripping with the insincerity I feel.

“Adam, good to see you as always. And who is this?” He’s already eyeing Nicole, and it pisses me off.

That sense of possessiveness is coming through. I rarely ever feel this about a woman. But with Nicole, if anybody so much as looks at her, I am hell-bent on their destruction.

It takes all my willpower not to say something now to the Senator.

She shakes his hand, and I pull her back away from him and into a seat.

“This is Nicole Donovan. She’s working with us now and she’s been fully briefed.”

She and I sit on one side of the desk with the Senator on the other.

“So, how’s my campaign running?” he asks.

“Things are running as smoothly as ever. We have all the pieces in place. But we’d like to see you on the fundraising trail a little bit more. Your work with the environment is starting to be underscored by other things,” I say.

“What other things?” he asks as if he doesn’t know.

At this point, Nicole cuts in and I can’t believe my ears, “Mr. Senator, isn’t it true that you’ve been taking endorsement deals from some shady people?”

He looks at me as if to rescue him, but I’m not saying a damn thing. I’m gonna let her shine and do her thing. Obviously, she’s done her homework.
