Through the gates, a single man emerged. Black wisps of power flicked from him, attacking the soldiers nearest the gate. Each one dropped immediately once touched.

A wicked grin spread across Tempest’s face as she realized who it was.

“Are you sure Aloysius is the strongest god? The god of the dead judges the souls of the departed while I judge the souls of the living. None can escape us.”

Soleil glared at Tempest. “Oh, you think so?”

She shook her feet free of Soulshadow’s chains, and the ball and chain disappeared. Tempest tried to call it back, but couldn’t access it. Panic hit her, and she looked earnestly back at the god of the dead.

Aiden was rushing towards her, his power wiping out entire sections of Soleil’s and Aloysius’s armies along his path. For a moment, Tempest felt hope. Aiden had ended his mortal trial and regained his full godly powers.

Bright light from Soleil’s neck distracted Tempest as she felt her body being pulled towards the necklace. The egg opened, and no matter how hard Tempest fought against it, she couldn’t escape.

Aiden roared as he got close enough to grab Tempest, but the necklace pulled her in just as his hand reached hers. Soleil’s cackle and Aiden’s terrified face were the last things she heard and saw before the egg closed. She was trapped.

The first thing Tempest became aware of was the sound of her own breathing. She could feel her chest heaving as she breathed large gulps of air as if she’d been holding her breath for a very long time.

Tempest opened her eyes and tried to sit up, but was unable to move. She was trapped in some sort of cocoon made from her own power. She sent out a tendril of power to try and break free, but it only rebounded back off the walls of her prison, weakening her further.

A vision of Aiden appeared before her, his eyes full of pain and anger. He reached out to touch her, but his hand passed through hers as if she wasn’t there.

“Aiden,” she whispered, not knowing if he could hear her or not.

The vision disappeared and was replaced by one of herself, wearing a white gown dripping in blood. It was the one she had started the Dei Electi in.

The blood from her dress pooled in the bottom of the cocoon until the weight ripped through. Tempest fell out of the base into a swirl of cloud so thick she couldn’t find her own feet. The only sign she was still falling was the fabric of her dress whipping her face.

Suddenly, her fall was stopped, although she was still surrounded by darkness. She silently called out for Aiden, but couldn’t find a way out of the darkness. She didn’t know where she was. Tempest closed and opened her eyes again, hoping to see some light, but she was still trapped in darkness.

“Hello?”

A bright light pierced through the darkness, but it wasn’t white. It was orange.

Tempest blinked as the light grew brighter, blinding her. The light and heat got stronger and stronger, threatening to burst through and engulf her essence entirely. Her body began to burn, and she could feel her skin cracking.

She heard a loud crack, and a blazing wave hit her all at once.

A woman rushed towards her, ax in hand, and swung at Tempest’s head. Tempest tried to call Soulshadow, but it didn’t respond. She dropped to her knees and rolled out of the ax’s path.

The woman disappeared, taking the light with her.

Ears alert for any sound of movement, Tempest began crawling through the dark slowly, one hand in front of the other, so she didn’t run into anything. Tempest had no way to track time and began counting her movements.

Left, two hundred thirty-two.

Right, two hundred thirty-three

Left, two hundred thirty-four.

Right... She stopped. Picked her hand back up and put it back down harder. It splashed in water. She moved her left hand forward, and it splashed, as well. The water began to glow as if sensing it was her, and a vision appeared within it.

Tempest felt herself being pulled into the water and saw herself sitting in a tree with Aiden. They were staring at the stars, and she leaned against him, feeling his warmth. She felt safe, valued.

“I love you, Tempest,” Aiden whispered, his breath tickling her ear.

Tempest froze, her heart pounding in her chest. She was scared to say anything, scared that if she spoke, the spell would be broken, and this moment would be gone.

Aiden must have sensed her hesitation, because he spoke again. “I know you’re scared, but I want you to know that I love you. I’ll always love you.”
