He smiled and bent his head to kiss me again and this time, because he was naked, and I was too, under my robe—we wound up tangled together in a heap on the floor. Things got pretty heated pretty fast. Before I knew it, he had hauled me to my feet, and we were kissing our way down the stairs. I thought I heard a door open on the floor where Josh and Kyle had their rooms, but it slammed again so fast I may have imagined it. We stumbled into the bedroom, where he made love to me again and again until the first rays of dawn brightened the windows. I think it was safe to say the transformation into his Dragon would be something I had to look forward to if it made him this anxious to make love.

I didn’t realize until the next morning that we’d never gotten around to using a condom.

Later that morning, when I finally came fully awake, he was already up and gone, leaving me to lounge in bed a while longer. By the time I got up, dressed and got moving, driven downstairs by the aroma of coffee and bacon that had wafted up the stairs, I was ravenous.

Kyle was at the stove when I came in, and he turned to smile at me. “Dominic is out on the patio in back—on the phone, I’m afraid. Pour yourself a cup of coffee if you like and I’ll make you an omelet. They’re my specialty.”

“Sounds perfect.”

“Anything you don’t like on them?”

“Nope. Give me the works.”

He laughed and got to work as I filled my cup and went out on the deck.

Dominic was just ending a call as I walked out and sat down at the table next to him. I could see why he liked to have his breakfast here—the view of the valley below was amazing. But my view of his handsome face was even better.

He leaned over to cup a hand around the back of my head and pull me over for a kiss. “Did you sleep well?”

“I did, once I was finally allowed to get some rest. Your Dragon had other ideas.”

“I would say sorry, but I’m actually not,” he replied, giving me a wink. Funny, but I’d never liked anyone doing that before. It seemed kind of lame in the past, but when he did it, it made me squirm a little in my chair and lean in for another kiss. I couldn’t seem to get enough of those.

“I’m sorry I didn’t fly along with you,” I said, pulling away, but still snuggling against him. “I’d like to try shifting someday, if you’ll help me. My father wasn’t big on omegas doing much of anything except having babies and doing as they’re told.”

“I’m sorry you had to go through that, Jax. But I’d love to guide you some day when you’re ready.” He took a sip of his coffee as I leaned heavily against him. “It’s probably just as well, though, that you didn’t try last night. After all, you could be pregnant, and I don’t know what that might do to the baby.”

“I’m not pregnant.”

He glanced down at me and lifted one shoulder. “Well, probably not. That we know of.”

I straightened up in my chair and glared at him. “I’mnotpregnant.”

“We had unprotected sex the first time we were together. And we got carried away again last night. I apologize for that, by the way. I never meant for it to happen.”

I glared at him and then jumped a little as his cell phone started to ring. When he reached for it, I slammed my hand down on the table. “Don’t you dare touch that phone!”

Startled, he turned to look at me. The phone kept going, juddering over the table between us.

“Jax,” he said softly, reaching for me. “What’s the matter?”

“Nothing’s the matter withme!” I continued shouting, and I couldn’t seem to stop. “Why do Alphas always assume the omega is the one with the problem?”

I jumped to my feet, even though he was still reaching for me.

“I made it clear that I want a career, just like you do! I may not be some high-powered lawyer, but my life is still important, you know. Just as important as yours is!”

He stood up too, looking confused, and a little alarmed. He spoke softly, like he was trying to calm down a crazy person. Which of course, he was.

“Of course, your life is important. I never said it wasn’t.”

“No, but I think you feel that way, don’t you? Why else would you even bring that up?”

He caught my hand in his and kept holding it even though I tried desperately to pull it away. “Stop, Jax. I said that because it’s true, and we have to face reality. The first night we were together we got carried away and didn’t use any protection. Youcouldbe pregnant. And then again last night.”

I managed to yank my hand back, really picking up steam now. “And that’s what you’re hoping for, isn’t it? Regardless of what I think!”

“No. Why would you even say that?”
