Emily blinked. “You do?”

He chuckled. “I do.”

Her body warmed at his smile. “I do, too.”

His eyes lit up and he grinned. “Good.” He pulled her close and wrapped his arm around her shoulder.

She rested her head on his chest and listened to his heartbeat, strong and steady. Like him.

“If I’d have known you were going to be out here, I would have brought my other violin, since you won’t touch the Guarneri.”

“I don’t think I should spend time playing while I’m here. I’m supposed to be helping David.”

Mark ran his hand over her left hand and turned it palm up. She winced and jumped. “I’m sorry. Did I hurt you?”

Emily sat up, cradling her left hand in her right. “No...” She bit her lip. “Geoffrey found out I was playing and... squeezed it hard on Saturday. It’s still a little sore.”

Mark frowned. “That asshole...” He took her hand in his and examined it, pressing gently here and there, watching Emily’s reaction. She winced when he pressed against the sides of her palm. “I think you’ll be okay. Just some bruising.” He smiled and ran his fingers over her fingertips. “They’re healing nicely.”

Emily shivered and bit her lip at the heat that flooded her body at his touch. His gaze locked onto hers as he brought her fingertips to his lips and kissed each one. She inhaled a shaky breath and blinked several times as his eyes bored into hers. “Mark...”

The sensations coursing through her body terrified her. She wanted to lean over and kiss Mark, but her desire scared her. She’d never wanted someone like she wanted him. She’d never had the opportunity to want someone, just because she liked him.

Mark leaned forward and pressed his lips to hers, his tongue probing until she opened to him. He was demanding but gentle. Tentatively exploring her mouth with his tongue. When he pulled away, she would have sworn he took her breath with him. “Is that okay?” He stroked her cheek with the back of his knuckles.

She nodded and smiled. “I liked it.”

He grinned. “I think that’s the first time you’ve admitted that.”

“I always liked it when you kissed me before, I just...” She shrugged. “It feels different now.” Because she knew how she felt about him. And for some reason, it was okay to feel that way.

“I’m glad.” He ran a hand down her cheek. “I’m glad you liked the concerto.”

She searched his eyes and smiled. “I liked it a lot.”

He kissed her again. “Can I tell you something?”

She nodded.

“I love you.”

Her heart skipped a beat and she stared. “You do?”

“Is that okay?”

She felt as if she were floating as she said, “Yes. I think I love you, too.”

Mark chuckled. “I’m glad to hear that. Unrequited love isn’t much fun.”

She giggled and leaned forward to kiss him.

“You’ve never done that before.”

“I did in my head.”

Mark arched a brow.

She gave a small shrug. “When I was younger, I would watch you play and stare at pictures of you.” She ran a finger over his bottom lip. “You have such nice lips.”
