She would have sworn his cheeks darkened, but didn’t have a chance to wonder about it because he pressed his lips to hers again and all thoughts except the present floated out of her mind. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders. The kiss deepened and he held her tightly against his chest.

When he pulled away, he leaned his forehead against hers. “I should get back to my hotel. It’s late and tomorrow’s a busy day.”

She glanced at her bedroom door and nodded. She didn’t think it would be respectful to David for Mark to stay the night.

As they walked to the door, Mark held her hand, though it was only a few feet. Still, it was wonderful.

“I don’t think we should make... this... public,” she said as he reached for the door handle.

“Why?” He turned, his brows knit together.

“I don’t want you to get hurt.”

He cupped her cheek and searched her eyes. “I understand, but it could offer you some protection, too.”

“How?”

“No one would dare mess with my girlfriend, would they? Too much risk of publicity.”

“Girlfriend?” Her heart leaped in her chest again.

He gave her a soft smile. “Is that okay?”

She bit her lip. “I like it.” She gave him a shy smile.

“Me too.” He leaned down and kissed her gently on the mouth and then straightened. “I’ll see you at the ten o’clock workshop.”

“You’re going to be there?”

“David asked me to demonstrate for his company a few weeks back. I’ll be at most of the workshops he’s at.”

She beamed at him. “I’ll get to hear you play all week?”

He nodded.

“Then it will be the perfect week.”

He kissed her again and left. She closed the door behind him and leaned against the cool wood for a moment, a smile playing on her lips. Mark Pierce loved her! It all seemed too wonderful to be true, but her swollen lips assured her she hadn’t been dreaming.

She practically skipped to David’s room and knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

She peeked her head inside. He was leaning against the headboard, his legs stretch out in front of him, papers strewn across the bed. “Do you need anything before I go to bed?”

“I’m fine.” He tilted his head as he studied her. “You’re glowing.” He chuckled.

She couldn’t stop the grin from spreading across her face.

David raised his eyebrows in question.

“Mark told me he loved me.”

David nodded, a satisfied smile on his face. “He picked the right girl.”

“Is that okay?”

“Of course it is. Why wouldn’t it be?”
