Alana hugs Bryony to greet her, then does the same thing with me. She looks past me at the exorcists and at Malon, but she doesn’t ask me any questions about them.

She does turn to me and raises her eyebrows. “What happened, babe?”

“I’m not sure,” I reply. “There was some sort of…explosion or whatever.”

“Not exactly an explosion,” Malon says under his breath. “I’m pretty sure they found you.”

I turn to look at him over my shoulder. If he’s right, then I’m putting a target on Alana’s back by being here. She’s my friend. I should’ve thought this through.

As if she can read my mind, Alana tilts her head, pinning her hair up in a high bun as she does. “You can stay here as long as you want,” she says. “Whoever is after you, they’re not going to be able to come in here. This place has crazy security.”

That does make me feel better, and I know she’s right.

I feel a hand on my shoulder. I turn my head to see a concerned looking Misha. “It might be worthwhile to get the rest of the band here,” he says.

My stomach churns. He’s right, but I guess I didn’t consider that other people would be in danger because of me.

My eyes widen as what he’s saying sinks in. “Dee Dee,” I say, my voice shaking.

Misha raises his eyebrows.

“Her cat,” Rei answers for me. “We left him behind.”

“Do you think…”

“They’re demons, I wouldn’t put animal torture past them,” Luke says. He must notice the look on my face because he blanches a little when his gaze meets mine. “Do you want me to go get him?”

“Ask the girls,” Bryony says. “Sierra and Kelly will definitely stop to get him, and if they’re coming here for an emergency, they’ll be happy to do it.”

“How do I even tell them about this?” I ask her.

Bryony and Alana exchange a look. “Don’t worry about it,” Alana says. “We’ll take care of it.”

“Are you sure?” I ask.

“Yes,” Alana replies. “We’ll be right back. We’ll call them from the pool. And…I don’t know, you five can find rooms to stay in. Or a room to stay in. I don’t care. Just make sure it’s far away from my room.”

Bryony laughs. I can feel my cheeks reddening as the two girls look at me, but soon, they walk away together. Alana closes the sliding door behind her and I sit on the couch, trying to sink into the pillows.

I’m so tired. All of this is too much, and I don’t know how much longer I can live with it.

I run my fingers through my hair, taking a deep breath and trying my best not to crumble. I’ve been working so hard on making sure that I’m doing the right thing that it’s been really hard to pause and figure out how I’m feeling.

I guess I’ve been bottling it up.

I’ve been losing my mind a little bit just working overtime trying to…what? Fuck, outrun this? There’s no outrunning this. I thought I could live with it, but I didn’t realize that meant that I would be putting other people in harm’s way.

My mom, well, she knew what she was getting into. That’s cold comfort, but it’s something.

The girls in the band, they have nothing to do with this.

They shouldn’t have to pay to deal with the consequences of my actions. And that’s all they would be doing if I keep this up.

But it’s not like they won’t follow me no matter what.

Malon sits down next to me with a groan. He drapes his arm around me. I notice that the exorcists seem to tense at that, but no one does anything but stare.

“You haven’t done anything wrong,” he says into my ear. He says it loudly enough for everyone to hear.
