“Bring our girl's best friend back and be safe,” I tell him. He gives me a thumbs up as I turn, moving down the hallway, knowing we don’t have time to waste.

“Hunter, take the second floor. We’ll take the third. Hopefully, we find who we’re looking for on one of them. We’ll keep in contact with our wolves.” Nodding in understanding, I come to a screeching halt when I see the door we’re looking for.

“Stay alert. I don’t like that we’ve not run into anyone yet. There should have been someone moving around this mausoleum of a home,” his voice is low as he speaks.

We hear loud voices and quickly open the door to our right, moving inside the dark room as a group of men rush by, talking about the battle out front.

I open the door slowly when I hear their footsteps soften the further away they go. Sticking out my head, I look to the left and the right before turning back to Ryder.

“Okay Miguel, Nolan, Jael get ready. Ryder, give us a few minutes head start, then follow behind us and head to the third floor.”

I dart out the door towards the stairs just ahead of us, with the guys hot on my heels. I come to a screeching halt at the foot of the stairs, taking a moment to check if anyone is coming before taking them two at a time up to the second floor, my gun grasped in my hands in front of me ready for anyone I may come across.

Stepping onto the landing of the second floor Ryder pops into my head, letting me know he’s heading up with his crew. We move slowly down the hallway, two on either side.

“Miguel, Nolan. Check all the rooms on the left. Jael and I have the right. Remember, quick but thorough.”

“Got it,” Miguel responds, as he’s already heading for the first room to check.

I take hold of the handle of the first door I come upon, my gun ready. I open it. The room is pitch black and quiet. Not wanting to turn on the light, I call upon my wolf for his vision to see clearly in the darkness. I do three sweeps just to be sure and see nothing. Not wanting to leave anything to chance, I step inside, checking the closet to ensure none of our people are in the room.

Stepping back into the hallway, I move further down, bypassing the room Jael is checking to head to the next room on our side.

Opening the door, the sight before shocks me to my core. Fucking animals. Sitting in the middle of the room, tied to a chair with tape across her mouth, is a plump, elderly woman. Her head hung low in defeat. I rush over to her, shaking her shoulders lightly. When she looks up, her face is an angry black and blue, and my wolf growls in anger. Our elders are to be revered and not treated cruelly.

“Hey, I’m Hunter. I’m not going to hurt you.” She lifts her head, looking me in the eyes with her soft, weary ones. Taking hold of the tape, I carefully pull it off her face.

“Mama Saige!” Miguel calls out from behind me as he rushes into the room, kneeling by her side as he frantically begins loosening the restraints around her feet, while I get to work on the ones on her hands.

“Miguel, sweet boy.” Her voice is so hoarse and weak.

“What the hell have they done to you?”

“I talked back to Hugo and how he was treating young Mr. Michaelson. He did this. You've got to get them out of here.” She beckons him, grabbing hold of his shirt once her hands are free.

“Where are they keeping them? We need to get out of here before they catch wind that we’re in here,” I spit out, not meaning to be insensitive, but we needed to hurry the fuck up.

“Where’s Mav?” Miguel cuts in and asks her.

“He’s the next hallway down, third room on the right. They have Jarrod guarding his room.”

“And the two girls?” I ask, needing to relay the information to the others so they know.

“The one girl he has plans for is on the fourth floor up in the tower. Hugo is guarding her. Mr. Michaelson has left the property tonight. He mentioned something about a meeting to tie the girl to him. Instructions were for me to feed Maverick, and that’s when Hugo did this to me. The other one is in the dungeon, in bad shape.”

I link with Ryder by our wolves, letting him know where to find her, seeing how he’s on the wrong fucking floor. Once I’ve done that, I send a text to Sebastian letting him know Beba is, in fact, in the basement.

“You’re coming with us, Mama Saige,” Miguel announces, but right now we need to get Mav and she can barely move.

“Stay here. Once we get Mav, we’ll be back for you. Just stay out of sight in case anyone comes this way.” She nods her head in understanding.

Heading out of the room, we make our way to the end, slowing just before we get there. From what the old woman said, there’s a guard and we need to be ready to take him out.

“Miguel, what do you know about this Jarrod?” I whisper, getting close to him,

“He’s vicious with hand-to-hand combat. Magic-wise, he’s weak. I can take him. You get Mav.”

“You sure? We can take care of him as a group.”
