I slowly turn back to face him, before flying across the room to the cage. “You knew. But you didn’t tell him. How do I know you’re not lying?”

He just stands there glaring at me with daggers in his eyes, not uttering a word. Sick of him, I go to leave. He’s not going to give me anything more but taunts. Little slivers of information but not enough to amount to anything useful.

Or so I thought.

“Get ready, he’s coming. If you’re asking about pictures and telling me my house is blown up, I’d almost guarantee he knows. He’ll also kill me for not telling him. So either way, we’re all fucked.”

I fight the tears as I walk out of the room and shut the door behind me. Ryder and Hunter rush over to me, wrapping me up in their arms in one giant bear hug.Or is it a giant wolf hug?

“You did good, baby. He didn’t tell us much, but from what he did we can assume there were pictures in the house and now Maverick's dad knows about Chelle. We’ll be ready for him because there’s no way they're getting their hands on you again or fucking touching a hair on our daughter's head,” Hunter whispers into my ears, giving me the strength I need to make it through this.

All I can do is sob. Tears fall for the finality of losing my parents, the pain worsened by the fact they’re still alive.

“We got you, forget about them. They were never your family, merely the ones to lead you to your true family.” Hunter strokes his hand over my hair, before reaching down, taking my chin, tilting it upward, and placing a kiss on my forehead.

“I know, it still hurts. Even though I know they never held the affection other parents did for their children, I still held onto hope. But it’s all it was; hope. Let’s get out of here. I have a feeling Mr. Michaelson will be coming to look for us sooner than we think. Especially now that he knows about Chelle.” Releasing me, we all turn, hand in hand, and head out of the building my parents are being kept in. I know at some point I’ll have to decide on how in the hell I plan to deal with them.

“Want to stop for some ice cream on the way home and a Mountain Dew? We can eat the sweet goodness as we make plans. I’m sure Chelle would love some, maybe even get some sprinkles.” Ryder tries to coax me into a better mood with the sweet temptation.

“Yes, that would be amazing,” my voice is low as I try to let all the unhappiness of my life with my parents leave my body. I have an amazing future to look forward to with the men I love and my beautiful daughter.

The ride home was quiet, but it was a peaceful silence, not an uncomfortable one. Pulling into the driveway at home, I notice some of the cars are gone.

“Where’s everyone at?” I ask, looking back and forth between Ryder and Hunter from where I sit between them in the truck.

“Not sure. It looks like the M&M twins’ car is gone. Maybe they went to get their stuff from the rental home they’ve been staying in. I know they’re planning to move in as well, wanting to be close to Beba.”

“Oh okay, guess we should get this ice cream in before it melts.” I put on a small smile so they think my mind is clear of all that happened with my parents.

Before we can make it to the door, my little bundle of energy comes barreling out, right into me. “Mommy, you’re back. Daddy left, and he was so mad. Uncle Miles and Miguel went with him too.”

“Did he now? And what have I told you about spilling adult business to other people?”

She lowers her eyes as she shuffles her left foot back and forth across the concrete as her body sways side to side. “To stay out of it and it’s not my business to repeat to others. If the adult wanted it told to someone else, they’d do it themselves. I’m sorry, Mommy. He was just so mad and was yelling. Auntie Beba rushed me out of the living room and took me to her bedroom. I heard them outside and looked out the window as they pulled away,” her voice is meek and low as she speaks, which is a real task for her as she is normally wild and loud.

“Okay, well, we have ice cream that needs to be put away, and then after we eat something you can have some.” Placing my arms on her shoulders I turn her body back to the door and lead her inside.

“But I already ate. Auntie Beba made me a grilled cheese sandwich with some soup. It was so good.” Her chatter warms my heart.

The day went on and neither Maverick nor Miles and Miguel had returned. I’d called, but it went straight to voicemail, telling me he’d rejected the call. The only thing keeping my mind from immediately thinking negatively was that he sent me a text letting me know he would call me when he was free. What he needed to be free from, I didn’t know.

Something was going on, I just didn’t know what. But the other guys seemed to be in the loop. After lunch, I went to take a nap, while Chelle watched a movie and the guys went to the home office. Whatever they were discussing must have been important because they were still there when I woke up.

The only time they came out of the office was for dinner. After I bitched at them for about twenty minutes, they gave up and spent the evening with me and Chelle. I really wanted to drill them about what was going on, but not in front of my daughter.

I had to force her to go to bed, assuring her that her daddy would come in and check on her when he got home.If he came home. What the hell was going on?

Looking at each of the guys after I step back into the living room, I can see the look of guilt spread across their faces. “Somebody better start talking now, or my daughter and I are packing a bag and staying at Beba’s house tonight! Alone!” I add on the last word for emphasis so they know I mean business.

“Maverick’s on his way back. We should wait until he gets here.” Hunter drops down beside me, as he takes my hand in his.

“And when exactly will that be?” I know I probably sound like a bitch, but I’m pissed.

“He should be here in about ten minutes,” Ryder croaks out as he stands. “Anyone want anything to drink?” The others shake their heads yes, while I say no.

About fifteen minutes later, Miles, Miguel, and Maverick drag their asses through the door. Maverick’s face is tight and drawn, looking as if he’s carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.

My shoulders slump, knowing whatever is about to come out of his mouth is going to be bad and rock me to my core.
