“Fuck yeah, let’s go do the time warp.” We skip off down the hallway excited to watchThe Rocky Horror Picture Show.
When we get to the kitchen, we are surprised we didn’t run into anyone else, especially with how many people were staying here. Tala had even performed a spell building onto the house, to add some extra bedrooms once she got plans and approval from Ryder.
We scoured the cabinets, finding popcorn and chocolate, two treats that go perfectly together. Knowing that we needed more than that, we swiped the container we hid from dinner last night with the leftover pizza and some cans of Mountain Dew.
Heading to the living room, we pull the coffee table closer to the couch as we set our stash of food on it. Picking up the remote, we search for our movie, make the purchase and sit back under the throw blanket, ready for a relaxing afternoon.
What we didn’t know was this was the calm before the storm that was preparing to beat down our doors. Before it was over, we would lose so much. A loss that would rip us to shreds.
Chapter 20
Shay
Wakingupthismorning,I felt like a black cloud was floating over me. Darkness and dread filled me as if it was an omen of something to come. Even being nestled between Hunter and Ryder couldn’t ease the anxiety that was wracking my body. My chest was so heavy I could hardly catch my breath. The closeness of my two guys added to the overwhelming emotions taking over, making it even harder to breathe. I needed some air, but first I had to squirm my way out from in between them.
After a lot of shimmying and some careful climbing over their bodies, I was able to move from between them and get off the bed. My excitement at getting out from between them unnoticed almost came crashing down as they began to stir. Hunter even reached out for me. Acting quickly, I snatched one of the body pillows that was tossed onto the floor and placed it between them.
Satisfied I’ve not been caught when they each wrap an arm around different areas on the pillow, I slip on a t-shirt and some leggings and head downstairs. The house is eerily quiet. I knew not to expect Chelle as she spent the night with Mandy last night. She went on and on about getting to watch the kids race in wolf form and s’mores. Her face lit up as she talked and I didn’t have the heart to tell her she couldn’t go for the night.
I hear the soft thump of my feet on the stairs as I walk down them. Reminding me of coming down the stairs in my childhood home. Though then I always moved around the home in fear of my father. “Children should never be heard. Hell, it’s enough just seeing them.”He would always make sure to remind me of that, always stating one day when I was older and a parent I’d understand. The funny thing is I do, except in a much different fashion. Children should be seen and heard. Their laughter as they play should fill a home; it’s how I’ve always wanted my home to be,
Stepping through the threshold of the kitchen, there’s still no one in sight. Glancing up at the clock on the wall, I see it’s almost ten in the morning. Someone should be up and around. I know Hunter, Ryder, and I were up until the wee hours of this morning as they explored every inch of my body, bringing me to my climax over and over. I mean, could someone die from an orgasm? If they could, it’s a miracle I survived the night.
Making my way over to the coffee pot, I’m happy to see that it’s set to brew already. All I needed to do was turn it on. Grabbing a banana from the fruit bowl, I take a seat at the table while I wait for the coffee to brew.
I’ve taken no more than two bites when I feel the room begin to sway and my vision becomes cloudy and patchy. I grip the table, worried that I’m going to fall out of the chair when everything goes black and the feeling of falling down takes over. Like that girl from the story that falls down the rabbit hole.
The sensation of falling seems to last forever before I plop down in a bed of wildflowers.Well, this is different, I think before the voice that fills all my dreams like this speaks up.
“Well, I felt it was time for someplace new. To take us from the darkness to the light.” Finally, looking up so I can see her, I notice how bright the surrounding area is, as well as feeling the warmth of the sun on my skin.
“Why am I here?” Confused at being pulled here to see her again.
“Because it’s time, dear girl. Evil is knocking at your doorstep. Get in place, protect your children, and be prepared. He will get word that he’s coming, so when he tells you, listen to him and take precautions. Remember, you can win, but it will come with a loss. Someone must die in order for good to prevail. Say your goodbyes now, for it will happen quickly.”
“Why do you always speak in riddles? Are they here now? Can’t you just fucking speak without it being so hard to understand?”
“Child, I have told you. I can’t make it any clearer. Time is up. Be prepared to fight. So wake up!” she shouts and brightness fills my vision.
I stumble out of the chair and fall to the floor, slamming down hard on my ass. I must’ve screamed, at least I thought I heard one echoing through the room and down the hallway. Thunderous footsteps sound down the hallway, like a stampede of elephants. The noise gets louder the closer it gets to the kitchen until the guys come skidding into the room one behind the other, barely knocking each other over until Maverick finally slams into Sebastian, sending him flying to the floor.
“Are you okay, babe?” Damien rushes out when he’s the first to reach me, dropping down to the floor beside me to help me up.
“Yeah, I’m okay, just another one of those freaky dream conversations with my woods lady.”
“Ughhhhh,” Sebastian groans. “What’s the bad news this time?”
Clearing my throat a couple of times, I steel my nerves to tell them. “She said he's coming and to get ready.” “Fuck, fuck. fuck… That’s cryptic. Is he here now, on the way?” he asks as I just shrug my shoulders in an ‘I don’t know’ motion, “Hunter, contact the pack and tell them to get in battle positions. Sebastian, Damien, and Tala get all the supernatural factions here to get in place.” Ryder begins barking out orders in true Alpha fashion.
“Man, calm for a moment. He won’t attack in broad daylight; he'll wait until nightfall. So we take today, take our time and get shit in place. Make sure the wards are up and the town is spelled to keep anything supernatural from getting out. We stick to our plan and keep everything near here and pack lands.” Maverick steps in, trying to calm Ryder.
It’s at that moment, Miles and Miguel step into the room, and I know who the woods lady was talking about when she said he would get word when Miles speaks. “Hey guys, my contact messaged, he’s on the way.”
“Yeah we know, Your guy’s a little late,” Hunter says and the M&M’s look confused. Letting them out of their misery he gives them the two words that will tell them everything. “Woods lady.”
“Can we go get Chelle? I want to see her before this all goes down. Who will she be with? Can they protect her?” I know I asked a million questions, but I had to get them out of my head. Beba already assured me if things didn’t go as planned, she would take Chelle and run to protect her. There’s no way I was letting Maverick’s dad get his grimy hands on her.
“Yeah, babe. But let’s just visit her there. We don’t want to alert them to where she is so Beba is going to have Godfrey open a portal like the one he did when we rescued you. I’ll message Janey to let her know before we do it so she doesn’t freak out when we appear out of nowhere. But first, let’s get you fed, and some coffee, and then we’ll head over. Tonight, to keep the kids and elderly of the pack safe, we are taking them to the underground bunker. We’ve already stocked it with food and shit to keep them busy. Janey will be there along with some of the other mothers, the elder wolves who can no longer fight, and two of our best warriors. There’s no way anyone is getting to them.” Damien wraps me in his arms, giving me the comfort I need.
