I surprise him by smacking my hand over his mouth because of a sound I hear on the baby monitor. He groans into my palm when he empties inside me. His eyebrow twitches. Then he blinks a few times. Finally, his eyes fly open when he becomes coherent enough to clue into what I heard.

Lena is babbling happily to Mitch through the baby monitor on my nightstand. “You my doggie, Mith. Youmydoggie.”

“I’m sorry, I didn’t want her to hear you,” I say quietly before lowering my hand.

Jace arches an eyebrow. Eyes gleaming mischievously, he drags his index finger down my body over my puckered nipples to my overly sensitive clit. He’s still inside me when, with the perfect amount of pressure, he rubs it rapidly in tight circles. “You’ve got another, yeah?” he whispers, pressing the heel of his palm against my mound. The deliciously erotic pressure triggers an absolute tsunami of an orgasm. I grit my teeth just to keep from screaming out.

I’m breathless. Writhing. Spasming.

Worried.

It’s so stupid. Lena can’t possibly hear us, but I’m so hyper-focused on doing the right thing. I’d feel like the biggest loser if Lena’s psyche was damaged by hearing me fuck her father.

The reality is, raising a child isnothinglike working with animals, which I’mreallygood at. The truth is, I’m in a constant state of low-grade fear that I suck at motherhood. I have no clue what I’m doing. Um, ever.

I love Lena so much. I just don’t want to screw her up…

Goodgawd. My current inner dialogue reminds me of my best friend, Zoey. Too much over-thinking.

Jace is already dressed by the time I cycle through this particular round of myI’m a bad mothernegative self-talk. He reaches down and caresses my face, reading my mind. “We always have time for sex, Poppy. Just because we love to fuck doesn’t make us bad parents.”

“I know, but—”

“Stop.” He bends down to kiss me. “You’re great with her. She loves you. All you have to do is relax. Take a breath. There’s no perfect way to do this. At least that’s what my mom says.”

“My mom says the same thing.” I relax against the pillows. Stick my lower lip out to blow an errant hair from my forehead.

“I’ll get Lena up. We’ll take Mitch outside for a pee and a walk to the barn and introduce him to the horses. That way you can take a little time for yourself.” He kisses me again.

I nod, pressing my hand to his heart. Jace quirks his lips into a grin and turns to leave but I grab his hand. “I love you immensely, my sexy Viking man.”

“Oh yeah? Then it’s time to marry me.” He winks and disappears to take care of our daughter.

I suck in a breath. Pull the covers up around me. Ever since we adopted Lena, he’s relentless with the comments about getting married. The thing is a piece of paper doesn’t mean anything.

I’d like for it to happen at some point. It’s just…

After all the uncertainty we’ve navigated during our time together over the past decade, things are good now.

No, better than good.

Things are nearly perfect.

So…maybe we shouldn’t rock the boat.

Ican’t take my eyes off her when she’s around. It’s been that way from the day I met her. Nothing’s changed in nearly a decade.

She’s Poppy. A perfect blend of stunning beauty and effortless chic. She smiles freely. Her wit is unmatched. I don’t know anyone smarter. Or harder working. She loves with her whole heart and soul.

She’s my fuckingeverything.

I find myself relishing each little gesture she makes. Like when she taps the toe of her black Frye boots on the floor every time she laughs. The way she always sticks her bottom lip out to blow phantom hairs off her face. Gawd, the huge smile that spreads across her lips when she’s with our horses.

The way her eyes widen with awe every time I make her come.

The woman I love is a mixture of the absolute best contradictions. Worldly. Innocent. Sophisticated. Simple. Sexy. Sweet. The list goes on and on. I’ve got it bad.

I’ve had it bad for nearly a decade.
