I pulled out of her, rolling onto my back. “Dragon-like?” I squeezed my eyes shut and felt them return to normal. “That was intense.”

She smiled, snuggling up to my side. I put my arm around her and kissed her forehead.

We basked in the sun, but not for long. It was too damn hard to keep our hands off each other.

Chapter22

Arden

Lex was right—using my earth magic was mentally taxing, and the fatigue settled over me like a heavy blanket. And on top of that, he put my body through a workout right there on the field where I’d been getting my lessons. Being out in the open, even if no one saw us because of the cloaking spell, was such a rush.

I smiled, scrubbing shampoo into my hair. Despite my fatigue, I was excited about my lessons in the future. I was clumsy with my magic, but once I got the hang of it, it felt right. How had I gone so long without this power? The idea of not being able to tap into it, to feel it pulsing through my veins even a little, felt wrong.

I finished showering and put my wet hair up in a bun, before dressing in some comfortable clothes. The softness of the clothes the Royals had given me finally wore down my resolve. I loved my old sleep t-shirts and still wore them, but they didn’t hold up against the buttery soft leggings and lacy tops.

My stomach growled, and I put my hand to it. Most evenings, I made something quick and easy in my room, or someone brought me a meal from the palace kitchens. But on rare occasions, I ate with Jagger or Lex down in their dining room. I wanted all three of them, and I was in the mood to cook, so I called their main office.

“I want to cook dinner for you three,” I said before whoever answered even spoke.

“You do, Little Flower?” Jagger chuckled. “What do you want to make?”

“I’m not sure, but the urge just came over me. Where should we eat?”

“My quarters work. See you soon.”

I walked over to Jagger’s quarters. Each of the Royals had put their own touch on their quarters. Jagger’s part of the palace was decorated with deep, bold colors, eclectic art, and a spicy, incense smell lingering in the air. An enforcer guided me to where Jagger, Lex, and Flint were already waiting at a dining table in the massive kitchen. The kitchen was a dream, with a ton of space and a beautiful view, even at night.

“Hey, Kitten,” Lex said, holding up a bottle of wine. “You want some wine? Or you could go the Jagger route and have a cocktail.”

“I’d love some wine.” I kissed each of them on the cheek as I passed by. “I need something to drink while I figure out what to cook for you all.”

“You came over to cook without knowing what you’re going to cook?” Jagger asked, pouring me a glass of red.

“That’s the fun of it.” I gave him another brief kiss and took my glass of wine. I didn’t know much about it, but it was delicious. “I’ll figure it out as I go. That’s how I usually cook.”

I threw open the fridge. Every shelf was filled with fresh meats and vegetables. The pantry was equally well stocked. “I have so much to play with. What do you guys like?”

“Steak,” Jagger said right away.

“Any meat is perfect,” Flint added.

Lex grunted in agreement.

“Such males.” I snorted and squatted down to see the meat selection. “You just have this whole fridge stocked to the gills? For what? Do you cook?”

“Each of us has a private chef. He usually makes dinner with whatever’s on hand, plus breakfast. If I don’t eat it, he takes it to the kitchen for someone else,” Jagger said.

I nodded, pulling out a package with several pounds of steak and dropping it on the counter.

“So, do you guys eat vegetables, or…?” Jagger had a whole rainbow of them. “You know what? I’m going to decide.”

“As long as there’s steak, I don’t care,” Lex laughed.

“Glad you three aren’t picky. I’ll make some crispy potatoes, broccoli…” I opened the pantry again. “Maybe a little appetizer? Does that sound good?”

“Sounds perfect,” Lex said. “Honestly, anything you make will be good.”

“You just jinxed it.” Jagger groaned. “Now everything will be a disaster.”
