“You deserve nothing less than the absolute best,” he said. “And I promise I will spend every day of the rest of my life giving you my everything. I love you so much, Elle. Will you marry me?”

“Tristan—” I tugged on his hand, bringing him to a standing position. “I already have everything I could ever want.”

He furrowed his brow. “Are you… Do you not want to get married?”

“Are you kidding?” I laughed through tears of joy. “Of course I want to marry you. I’m just saying—I’m perfectly content with our life. We don’t need an expensive house or fancy cars or a big wedding. All I need is you.”

“And all I need isyou.” He slid the ring on my finger. It was a perfect fit. And I loved the unique style. The pearl had a slight purple sheen to it and was set in a band of diamonds that glittered like stars.

He cupped my cheeks, claiming my lips in a kiss that spoke of passion, reverence, and love. I reveled in the moment and this man, but then another thought occurred to me. “What about the kids?”

He chuckled. “I have a feeling they’re going to be thrilled.”

“Still…” I hesitated, peering down at my engagement ring. “Do you think I should wait to wear it until we’ve had a chance to talk to them?”

“Nah.” He draped his arm over my shoulder, and I marveled at how relaxed he was. This washuge. “They’ll want to see the ring when we tell them. Come on.”

“Now?” I froze.

What if this was too much? What if they were upset? I couldn’t imagine that being the case, but still…getting married was a big step.

“Why wait?” He grinned, walking backward and pulling me inside with him. “Unless you’re having second thoughts.”

“Never.” I pressed up on my toes and kissed him.

“Mm. Good. Because I can’t wait to see my fiancée wearing nothing but her ring.” He held up my hand and admired the pearl before kissing my palm.

I sucked in a jagged breath, taking the lead. “Mm. Are you going to give me a pearl necklace to match my ring?”

“Elle,” he growled as I opened the door to the hallway.

I smiled at him over my shoulder, feigning innocence.

He grabbed me and spun me so my back was to the wall, and his body was bracketing me against it. When we came together, it was feverish and explosive, each of us determined to drive the other crazy with want. I loved it. And I loved us.

The kiss, our touch, was clumsy and rushed, and I craved it. I loved that we were both so desperate that the air felt charged with electricity ready to spark.

“Fuck, Elle. I love seeing my ring on your finger.” He intertwined our fingers, using his other hand to pull me closer. “Now everyone will know you’re mine when you wear it.”

I loved that too. I wanted everyone to know that I belonged to him.

Though I didn’t think it would take a ring to prove that. His eyes rarely left me. He was almost always touching me.

He might want me to belong to him, but he belonged to me just as completely. He was utterly devoted. Always doting on me and the kids.

“Speaking of new beginnings,” I said. “I have a proposal as well.” It was something I’d been contemplating for a while.

“Oh yeah?” He tucked my hair behind my ear. He often said it was the color of honey. “What’s that?”

“I think we should move back to the AV.”

He smoothed his hand down my side, over my curves. “Really?”

“Our trip has been incredible. But the kids are getting older now. I want them to have their friends and that wonderful sense of community that I did growing up. I want them to have that connection to their mom.”

He considered it a moment then nodded. “I think you’re right.”

“You do?”
