“What’s that?” Lily said. “And stop frowning. I’m sure it’s nothing major.”

She told them what she’d said to Linda and the reaction. Mona wanting to pay for it and how she was going to talk to her later.

“That’s great,” Poppy said.

“It really is,” Lily said. “You’ve got the marketing down just like Poppy.”

“Pimp the product, right, Poppy?” she asked.

“Totally. Okay, after I talk to Lily I’ll come down and you and I can look at what I’ve got that will go with the flowers she’s chosen. If it’s not in stock we can get it made easily by then.”

“Thank you. Both of you.”

“No,” Lily said. “Thank you for the idea. We love blending the products and this is just one more way to do it.”

The two sisters went upstairs and as Jasmine went to put her bag down and took the binders out, her phone buzzed one more time.

She pulled that out of her pocket and looked at Ivy’s texts and rather than respond, called her.

“What’s going on, Ivy?”

“Sorry,” her younger sister said. “I know you’re busy.”

“I am. I saw your texts. Sounds like you’re having a bad day.”

“I am. I figured you’d call me when you got home tonight. It’s nothing major. Don’t worry.”

But her sister didn’t sound like it wasn’t anything major. “What is going on?” she asked again.

Ivy sniffled a little. “Skyler dumped me.”

“I’m sorry about that,” she said. “It’s only been a few months though, right?”

“Yeah. I liked him a lot, but he said I’m an airhead. That I don’t have my shit together.”

“Then it’s better he’s gone,” she said. Though what Skyler said might be the truth, and words said to Ivy in the past, but they still probably stung.

“I know. I just can’t seem to do anything right.”

“Did you do anything wrong?” she asked.

“I don’t think so. He just said that he’s looking for someone to settle down with, and though I am too, he said he didn’t like my job. That I worked weekends and nights and wasn’t the life he wanted. I think he was embarrassed that I just worked retail. But I’m a manager now.”

“Good for you,” she said sincerely. “And if it’s not good enough for him, he can go sit on a cactus.”

Ivy giggled. “That’s right. Bare-assed too.”

“That’s the spirit,” she said. “I’ll call you tonight when I’m home. I promise. Unless you’re working.”

“No. I’m off today. I’ll talk to you later. And thanks for cheering me up already,” Ivy said.

“No problem.”

It seemed she did a lot of that in life. Cheered other people up but kept her own dismal personal life to herself.
